A law passed by Tennessee congress would allow teachers to carry. They would need a mental check and 40 hours of training and the approval of the school official. It will likely be signed by the governor. Do you think this is a good idea? Should we expand this to other states?

Yes, it is.
Yes, it should.
To add to that idea, retirees should be able to act as volunteer school safety officers, carrying guns, after being certified in a defensive gun course.

Yes, knowing the school is protected should deter possible shooters. Gun free zones sure do not work.

As long as it is not a requirement for employment or remaining employed I have no problem with it as long as it voluntary. It should be at least explored as a possible idea for each state.

Well Auntie some people in Tennessee who didn't like the bill were horrified at the prospect of the teacher carrying a weapon. I must say a thinking person could think it could become mandatory or they could not think

I would add after 40 hours of gun safety and target proficiency, another 40 hours of tactical training. I think it's a good idea.

What does the training include?
I think of Uvalde, where police who do the job every day hesitated rather than enter the school to confront an active shooter. I hope the mental evaluation is extensive, and will include some sort of method of testing the person's reaction to extreme stress. No one who might not remain calm in an extreme emergency such as an active shooter should be considered.
