A few comments. I am a vet and believe that our form of government is the best thus far offered for the greatest good of humankind. Yet this "greatest good" often ends up taking second, third, or out of the running place for the imperatives of Patriotism: "love of country and zeal for its interests." This is clearly and abundantly manifest in our history (and the history of every country). The ideals and principles, and sometimes laws and common sense, of ours or any country get covered or obscured by the f**g. Such as The Patriot Act, ironically enough, as we all see very plainly now.
I am not making my stand on religious grounds (more on the basis of critical thinking) but a few verses from the Bible often cited by Christians as an argument to fight for one's country is Romans13:1-4. This could involve a huge explanation but I will cut to the chase: A Christian is "to submit to the governing authorities" not for their sake or the country's but, as the other verses that follow in context plainly disclose, out of love of neighbor. For the Christian is a "citizen of heaven," "a stranger in a strange land," a "foreigner" and "alien" wherever he or she may reside, having been "set aside" (made holy) as an "ambassador for the kingdom of God." He or she is not to get "entangled in worldly affairs."
A curiosity. There is a street in a city in Norther Ireland where the only difference in loyalty and belief is the happenstance of being born with an even or odd address number. Think about that.
Lastly, Patriotism has no other values ascribed to it than "love of country," which is why every country can have patriots no matter their politics or beliefs: Patriotism is a one size fits all defect.

Here is the author's Number One Argument against Patriotism verbatim:

"Some readers may reject these arguments, but many others will simply ascribe all the worst effects cited here as a result of “extreme patriotism” or misinterpretations of what it means to be patriotic. But if the risks are there, and milder forms might lead to more virulent ones, we have to ask if patriotism is necessary at all.

"Do we derive some special benefits from it in terms of prosperity or liberty? There isn’t much evidence for that hypothesis. The United States is, statistically, more patriotic than many other countries. Yet it has a lower median household income than several less patriotic counterparts. It ranks lower on liberty than several other countries, according to measures like the World Press Freedom Index.

"We don’t need to be patriotic to defend common values or the spaces we share. People will defend themselves, their families, and their homes with or without patriotic feelings. So what evidence is there for enough good effects of patriotism to balance the harm done by it?"
Here are the ten argument headings: 10) Patriotism... (show quote)

A definition from Merriam-Webster......Patriotic: having or showing great love and support for your country : having or showing patriotism

To me, this is it in a nutshell. To others who are threatened by those who love our country, it is much broader, as you have just posted with the 10 points of Patriotism, written, no doubt by someone who fears patriotism.

Why would anyone fear patriotism? Because patriotic Americans will make it more difficult to reach the One World goal. We patriots believe in our country and love it dearly. No list can take away my love for America. Also, just because I love my country will I go out and become a terrorist. Those who do are the ones with warped hearts and minds.

I am dumbfounded by anyone living in America who has an attitude against patriotism. I mean, what?!?!? Those people really do need to find another country where patriotism doesn't exist.

And that is my take on it, for wh**ever it is worth. Oh and by the way, GOD BLESS AMERICA, and those who love it!!!

Today, Cindy and I are going with a realtor to look at 3 houses. We are looking to move into one, but have necessary work done so we each have our own space. I am not at a point where I NEED her assistance telling me what or how to do something. We have two separate houses now - hers is bigger, smaller yard, mine is smaller, bigger yard.

I would like you to keep me in prayer that the Lord will guide our decision. Knowing Cindy, more like her decision - But it's my money, so I need prayer to stand firm.

Beautiful story. sometimes it doesn't take a great deal of effort to help a child heal. But remember, it takes even less effort to severely damage a child's fragile image of "self". Treat all kids with love and kindness, even those of your enemies. You never know, the children may well become the close and trusted friends of your children. God works in mysterious ways.

HELL EXPLAINED BY A CHEMISTRY STUDENT
The following is an actual question given on a University of Tennessee chemistry mid-term, and an actual answer turned in by a
student.

The answer by one student was so 'profound' that the professor shared it with colleagues via the Internet, which is, of course, why we now have the pleasure of enjoying it as well:

Bonus Question: Is Hell exothermic (gives off heat) or endothermic (absorbs heat)?

Most of the students wrote proofs of their beliefs using Boyle's Law (gas cools when it expands and heats when it is compressed) or some variant.

One student, however, wrote the following:
First, we need to know how the mass of Hell is changing in time. So we need to know the rate at which souls are moving into Hell and the rate at which they are leaving, which is unlikely. I think that we can safely assume that once a soul gets to Hell, it will not leave. Therefore, no souls are leaving. As for how many souls are entering Hell, let's look at the different religions that exist in the world today.

Most of these religions state that if you are not a member of their religion, you will go to Hell.
Since there is more than one of these religions and since people do not belong to more than one religion, we can project that all souls go to Hell. With birth and death rates as they are, we can expect the number of souls in Hell to increase exponentially. Now, we look at the rate of change of the volume in Hell because Boyle's Law states that in order for the temperature and pressure in Hell to stay the same, the volume of Hell has to expand proportionately as souls are added.

This gives two possibilities:

1. If Hell is expanding at a slower rate than the rate at which souls enter Hell, then the temperature and pressure in Hell will increase until all Hell breaks loose.
2. If Hell is expanding at a rate faster than the increase of souls in Hell, then the temperature and pressure will drop until Hell freezes over.
So which is it?
If we accept the postulate given to me by Anabella during my Freshman year that, 'It will be a cold day in Hell before I sleep with you,' and take into account the fact that I slept with her last night, then number two must be true, and thus I am sure that Hell is exothermic and has already frozen over. The corollary of this theory is that since Hell has frozen over, it follows that it is not accepting any more souls and is therefore, extinct..... ....leaving only Heaven, thereby proving the existence of a divine being which explains why, last night,
Anabella kept shouting 'Oh my God.'
THIS STUDENT RECEIVED AN A+.

Hi everyone! I have a few minutes and wanted to share this with The Prayer Team. I know most of you don't know me since I have been unable to get on OP much, but I read what you all say here as often as possible, and have been blessed tremendously. Thank you all for this. :-)

Anyway, the following devotional really says it as it is for this day and age. Had to share:

Wake up from your slumber!
************************
By Daughters of the Kingon Sat, 29 Aug 2015

“And do this, understanding the present time: The hour has already come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.” Romans 13:11, NIV

Time is running out and there is a lost world that demands you to seek God for direction. Once direction is given, they need you to not hesitate, but act immediately. You are needed in the Kingdom of God, your services are required and your position is vacant waiting for occupation.

There is one last revival coming before the return of the Lord. My question to you is, are you positioned? Are you ready to be used? You are anointed and you have gifts and talents that need to be exhausted on this earth before returning home. I encourage you to wake up from that “wandering slumber” and place your hands on the plow once and for all.

Don’t let your emotions get involved. Don’t let your opinions get in the way, and much less let anyone dictate this for you…..seek God and follow ONLY His direction. You have a specific job to fulfill on this earth that no one else, besides you, can fulfill. So stir up your Spirit and attend to the things of your Father, BECAUSE HE IS SEEKING A RISING REMNANT THAT HE CAN USE IN THIS GENERATION.

Prayer: Father God, thank You for speaking directly to my heart. I pray that You awaken me. Forgive me for allowing myself to be lulled to sleep. I want to be used by You. I want to be about Your business and fulfill Your divine purpose for my life. Strengthen me Lord and cause me to be filled with purpose. In Jesus name, Amen.

Your prayer brought to mind this short, but powerful verse: Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me."

When you feel you can go no farther, that you're just going to drop - keep repeating that verse and HE WILL strengthen you.
Satan cringes at His Word, because he knows the Word well, and knows its power.
Amen, Amen

BearK! I read this at the perfect time!!! I need to be reminded every once in awhile that I CAN do all things through Christ who strengthens me! And boy, how He has been giving strength! Thank you all for your prayers -- they are helping my family and me so very much. Just before reading your post, BearK, I read the following devotional. I hope it's ok to share with all of you...

Do not be anxious about your life.
By Daughters of the King
Wed, 26 Aug 2015

“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life,…” Matthew 6:25, ESV.

Your life is in God’s hands. You can’t control how He blesses you, all you must know is that He will. You don’t know how He will meet your needs; all you must know is that He will. You don’t know how He is going to get you from where you are right now to where He wants you to be in life. All you must know is that He will do just what He promised He will do.

It is His timing, His plan, His perfect will that is in effect for you. When we no longer try to figure out everything, we will be able to rest in His immense love and receive His grace that is apportioned to us today. Anxiety builds in our hearts when we concern ourselves with things beyond our control. God’s grace builds in our lives when we walk in what He has set in front of us today to enjoy.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I ask that you touch my heart. I have been anxious about many things, and I’m sorry. I receive your peace and comfort right now. I acknowledge your presence in my life. Thank you for being with me and for caring so much for me. You are my God; I have no reason to worry. I have no reason to be all worked up. I know you will take care of me. As I cast my cares on you, I ask that you help others to see how good you are and cause them to receive your love in their hearts so they too can be anxious for nothing. In the name of Jesus, Amen.

God's timing is perfect. He IS an awesome God!!!

Glad to see your post. you and your husband have been our prayers. how are you both doing. Is your husband come home from the hospital and is he doing better? Please let us know how all is going with you. God cares about you and loves you, and many of us on OPP do to.

Hello NP!! Good to "see" you! I felt a nudging of the Spirit to hang out with you all again, as often as possible. Christian friends are important during these end times!! Thank you all again for your prayers and thoughtful gift. It means so much to us!!

Tim is about the same. He has been home from the hospital but still suffers severe headaches. After the stroke, he has lost some short term memory abilities and reasoning abilities too. He does things I do not understand. Things he would never do before the stroke. He tried to go back to work but could not keep up. They gave him very little time to catch back up on work duties after such a significant stroke! State Farm has not handled things properly in my eyes...so I will be speaking to an ADA attorney tomorrow. Tim is out of work now..."terminated" and after 23 years. He had his stroke in January. He went back to work in March and they told him to stay home one day when he went in, after only four weeks. Please pray for the Lord to guide us about suing State Farm. Not sure if it's the Christian thing to do.

Any advice would be very welcomed! Last year we were good. Finances were good, all was well. Now, I'm at a loss as to where to start ... What does one do when they suddenly have no job? I feel God will guide me, and He gives me peace!! I am trying to look at it as a new adventure. So what will tomorrow bring? I have no clue, but my God has promised He will provide for His children, and I thank and praise Him!! I also thank Him for all the people who He has urged to pray for us. I am anxious to find out what He has for us just around the corner!

Thanks again for your prayers and friendship--all of you who I have never seen face to face. What an encouragement you have been when I would read your prayers and devotionals!! You are all so awesome!!

So how have you all been? Are there prayer requests I can share in prayer for you? Please let me know. Love to you all in Christ Jesus!

Hi Slatten! I have a few minutes to myself and wanted to check out the music. I have to agree with you - John Denver is one of the best. His music kept me grounded when I moved to New York in my late teens. "Sunshine..." was my favorite, but so many others took me to the "country" many days when all I saw were skyscrapers!
