I agree about the attitude toward education here in the US compared to many other countries. I went on a mission trip to the DRC in 2009 and will never forget watching the children on their way to school, all dressed in white top and blue skirts or slacks... In some places their schools had dirt floors and only half a wall but they were happy to be there and really eager to learn. Same story in Kenya.
I don't know what happened to the US but it's part of what is causing our slide downward among the rest of the more developed nations.

fate of the U.S. Yes , I am in Ukraine, and as bad as things are because of the ridiculous war, I still see everyday,
children going to school, clean, and neatly dressed. To speak with them is a joy because they are astonishingly
well educated as well as exceptionally polite. BTW the literacy rate here is not only 100%, but most of the children speak at least 2 languages.
As to what happened in the U.S., I watched it begin to unfurl in the early 60s and devolve to what it is today.
100% due to the lowering of standards, principles and moral requirements by those in charge of education.
You already know the political persuation of those in charge of the U.S. education system.

BTW , here we had very few takers of the shot of death. A saving grace for those who had to have it in order to travel was the readily available "100% safe and effective paper shot". So you see there is a place for corruption to sometimes be a good thing.
