They are basing this on the cost of traditional breakfast foods. No where is it written that breakfast should be bacon, sausage, eggs, cereal, etc.
Think leftovers from dinner. Think a sandwich. Think leftover pizza slices. My breakfast today was two leftover meatballs from a sub UncleE had last evening.
The issue is more akin to the fact many people have forgotten how to economically shop and cook.
