Now (January, 2017), foreigners own about half of our $14.3 trillion publicly-owned US debt. With their trade surplus, foreign exporters accumulate US dollars and buy US debt for trade collateral. Their US bonds provide some protection against inflation and eliminate currency exchange fluctuation and costs. Foreigners will hold our debt until they find a safer refuge; none is now in sight. They will want to keep earning and holding our dollars unless the US goods that our dollars would buy are not competitive. It’s the job of Congress to keep us competitive by giving us the world’s best infrastructure.

Our debt/GDP ratio is now about 70%. It was over 120% during World War II, which was followed by 35 years of prosperity. Prosperous Japan’s ratio is now over 200%. We have no federal debt crisis!

Federal budget deficits are necessary for prosperity. Just as an individual judges her financial success by her after-tax earnings, so should the public relish the after-tax savings and cheap foreign goods provided by Congress’ spending deficits, which can only exit circulation into savings accounts or imported goods.

Deficit spending should not be large enough to cause harmful inflation but the budget deficit should exceed our trade deficit. Otherwise, we are exporting our savings to import foreign goods. Instead of cutting spending, we should be reducing our trade deficit by spending as much as possible on infrastructure that would lower industry’s costs, raise its exports, and reduce our trade deficit.

Will our debt always find buyers? Designated “primary” dealers are required to bid without collusion and the Fed can always buy their debt without limit, collect the interest, and return 94% of its annual profit to the Treasury, as law requires. And Congress has already and can again seize the Fed’s reserve.

The entire debt, as collateral, could be converted by bankers into dollars that would be added to a similar amount already in the money supply (M2). So, re-phrasing our question: would $29 trillion be too many dollars chasing too few goods and services, thereby causing inflation? If the few individuals owning most of those dollars increased their buying, what would rise in price, other than financial assets? Not food or other essentials! It is difficult now to see inflation being caused by federal debt.

But what about the future? Every year sees a large and growing federal budget deficit with an associated interest burden. Is that sustainable? The answer, according to the math at http://www.levyinstitute.org/publications/?docid=1379, is that growing deficits are sustainable provided that the rate of GDP growth exceeds the debt interest rate. That implies that our economy must always be competitive, which implies that our infrastructure must be among the best. Our future will not be secure unless we invest in it. Yes, Congress can fund any unfunded liability!

If v**ers really want to reduce the US debt held by the public, their Congress can easily provide steeply progressive estate tax brackets that will, over time, destroy much of the domestically-held debt. We certainly do not need a hereditary aristocracy with rich kids growing up with enough money to buy a Congressional v**e to cut spending on education while our kids are drowning in school debt.

So, how should Congress spend and tax? To maximize infrastructure, Congress should spend almost enough to cause inflation and should tax little enough to almost cause inflation. Ideally, always on the verge of inflation, everybody and every resource would be employed and every material would be in adequate supply or rationed to suit our national priorities, as if we were at war.

When small government nuts cut spending to cut taxes, they also reduce needed infrastructure. The spending scolds are depressing our economy, c***ting our grandchildren out of infrastructure, and weakening our defense, which depends on bridges and dams as well as on arms.

All Muslims who attest that the Koran is their life's guiding principal subscribe to submission to Islam and its form of government.

A container ship registered in the Philippines collided with the USS Fitzgerald off the coast of Japan early Sunday morning resulting in the deaths of seven sailors.

The U.S. Navy has yet to determine whether the incident involved foul play and is working with the captain of the container ship, but the mother of one sailor is raising important questions. Could this have been an attack against American forces? (via The American Thinker)

The mainstream media has been reporting on the collision as if it were an accident, but as more details emerge the collision appears to be an intentional ramming — a deliberate attack.

The container ship was barely damaged while the USS Fitzgerald will be out of commission for close to a year while the anti-ballistic missile destroyer is repaired.

The mother of one of the sailors aboard the USS Fitzgerald contacted The American Thinker to detail some of the oddities in the “official story” the mainstream media has been reporting.

“The ship is registered in the Philippines. We do not know who the owner is. The container ship neither had its running lights or t***sponder on. That is an action taken willfully,” The mother explained.

“Furthermore,” she continues, “for the container ship to strike with such accuracy is troublesome. Given what some have done with cars in Europe, what a feather in the cap it would be to sink a U.S. Navy warship. Think on that.”

The container ship was manned by a crew of 20 sailors and had reportedly made a sharp turn shortly before the collision occurred. Early evidence suggests the collision was intentional (via The Guardian).

Container ships do not just ram into military vessels. There are strict protocols designed to prevent collisions at sea and all of those protocols were ignored by the Philippine-based container ship.

The USS Fitzgerald was recently deployed as part of the USS Ronald Reagan strike group. The USS Fitzgerald is an anti-ballistic missile vessel which accompanied the strike group to protect American vessels from missile strikes.

The loss of the USS Fitzgerald, while repairs are undertaken, renders other American vessels in the region defenseless against ballistic strikes.

The intentional collision could be the latest tactic of asymmetrical warfare as North Korean or Islamic forces grapple to overcome American military superiority.

This is truly troubling.

Media Cries H**e Crime Over Muslim Girl K**led By I*****l A***n in Road Rage

The latest spurious “h**e crime” accusation came after an i*****l i*******t murdered a Muslim teenager with a baseball bat last weekend.

In a v***l news incident that was perfectly crafted for an “Islamophobia in the time of Trump” pitch, news sources reported 17-year-old Nabra Hassanen was k**led while walking to a mosque for Ramadan services.

Shortly after the incident went v***l because it involved a Muslim teenager being k**led, BuzzFeed reported police claimed there was no evidence of the incident being a h**e crime. However, that did not stop people from finding a way to claim the incident was a h**e crime and find ways to blame President Trump.

The Daily Beast ran the headline, “Will Donald Trump Ever Be Interested In the Death of a Muslim?” leading with the story about Hassanen. In the article, author Dean Obeidallah asks, “Was the hijab-wearing Hassanen targeted for her faith?” and then immediately states, “The police stated Monday that as of now they are not investigating this as a h**e crime.”

Despite outright admitting police were not investigating the incident as a h**e crime and had no reason to suspect anti-Muslim h**e was at play, Obeidallah claims in his piece, “Trump has put together the most anti-Muslim administration ever. To put it bluntly there is a direct line from the Trump White House to anti-Muslim h**e.”

Al-Jazeera likewise admitted police were not investigating the crime as a h**e crime before writing in bold print, “Surge in h**e crimes,” and claiming, “Anti-Muslim h**e crimes have surged in recent years.”

BET jumped in, writing, “Muslim teen Nabra Hassanen was brutally beaten to death and police aren't calling it a h**e crime.”

The Cut blatantly ran the headline, “Don’t Tell Me Nabra Hassanen’s Murder Wasn’t a H**e Crime.”

As it turns out, it wasn’t a h**e crime.

On Monday, NBC Washington reported police concluded Hassanen was not k**led because she was a Muslim leaving a mosque. Rather, the police said it was because of 22-year-old i*****l i*******t Darwin Martinez Torres’ road rage.

In a statement on Monday, police said, “This tragic case appears to be the result of a road rage incident involving the suspect, who was driving and who is now charged with murder, and a group of teenagers who was walking and riding bikes in and along a roadway," police said in a statement Monday afternoon.”

“Our investigation at this point in no way indicates the victim was targeted because of her race or religion," it continued.

Despite the police repeating again, “There is nothing at this point to indicate that this tragic case was a h**e crime. No evidence has been recovered that showed this was a h**e crime. Nothing indicates it was motivated by race or religion” after it was determined to be a road rage incident, people are still attempting to politicizing the tragedy.

Hassanen’s father disputed the idea that his daughter’s death was road rage, telling the Guardian, “He k**led my daughter because she is Muslim. That’s what I believe. That’s what I told him [the detective.]”

He said he also told the detective, “I want to ask him one question. Why did he do that? Because he doesn’t like Muslims, or what?’ He tells me he has no answer for that. This answer is going to be in the court.”

Human rights lawyer Arjun Sethi tweeted out that Hassanen’s father’s statement, adding, “H**e is terrorizing our communities.”

Documentary filmmaker Jose Antonio Vargas responded to news about the i*****l a***n k*****g Hassanen by implying “we need more facts and context,” despite multiple statements from the police.

Of course, Trump will still be expected to issue a statement apologizing for yet another false h**e crime.
