They do not have the power to remove him with their charges and v**e, but they can decide not to pursue a trial.

Democrats may also just delay this until after the e******ns. In this way House Democrats can campaign that they kept their promise, Senate Democrats can say they had no v**e... It was suggested that the Senate can hold a v**e with a quorum, 51 present and 2/3 of that can make a ruling. Could McConnell simply pass a motion to dismiss and have it v**ed on? If the rule is actually what has been suggested then even if none of the democrats showed up, they could simply v**e it out fo the "court" and dismiss it.

Rand Paul Demands Ban on Congress for Collecting Phone Data of Journalists and Members
By Jose Nino -December 18, 2019

Senator Rand Paul recently promised to consider committee rule changes that would restrict Congress from acquiring phone data from lawmakers and journalists.

The Kentucky Senator’s comments came after House Democrats released call records which allegedly linked to Congressman Devin Nunes and investigative journalist John Solomon. The past week Nunes accused House Intelligence Committee chair Congressman Adam Schiff of violating his civil liberties by looking into his phone records and divulging them in his impeachment report. In addition, Schiff publicized the call records of personal phone data from President Donald Trump’s attorney, Rudy Giuliani.
“Congress has no rules…it’s not illegal for Adam Schiff to do this,” Paul told reporters, according to Politico report. “It’s highly immoral or unfair for him to do it. No one else has ever done it to another member or a journalist. I think we need to change the rules.” The Kentucky Senator said he is looking at placing restrictions on Congress by changing committee rules.

“Nobody should get your phone records. This is a big deal; this is a huge deal,” Paul declared.

Senator Paul pointed to the lack of outrage from the press over Schiff acquiring Solomon’s phone records. “There haven’t been enough calls from some of you people about protecting your own,” he told reporters.

According to The Epoch Times, Solomon has taken on attacks and has been accused of disseminating Russian propaganda for his meticulous investigative work exposing “an appearance of a conflict of interest on the part of former Vice President Joe Biden.”

Nunes mentioned that his call records do not line up with what Schiff’s committee detailed in its report. “We’re definitely taking legal action,” Nunes said. “We need to get to court to try to stop that from happening again

Yet again, Rand Paul is shining as one of the president’s top defenders in this current impeachment craze.

Paul has shown liberty conservatives how they can position themselves as America First patriots, while simultaneously advocating for small-government policies.

I am sure it was just mistake made by Schiff, like the 17 mistakes on the requests for FISA warrants given to the FISA judge! LOLOL! This is how the left plays. McConnell is in a position to dish them up a little karma. I hope he does exactly that!

We may have expected this...….but being complacent and thinking all will be well is foolish. The Democrats are "buying" time. What they think they need is time to change the minds of Senate Republicans. You need 67 v**es in the Senate to convict and remove a president, and there are only 47 Democrats or independents, meaning that you need 20 Republicans to break ranks and v**e for removal. Could this happen, could President Trump be found guilty and removed from office....yes. Democrats have initiated a write in and call in campaign to the 23 Senators who are up for ree******n. But, here are the RINOs who may swing the v**e: Lisa Murkowski (AK), Marco Rubio (FL), Chuck Grassley (IA), Rand Paul (KY), Richard Burr (NC), Rob Portman (OH), Tim Scott (SC), Ted Cruz (TX), Mike Lee (UT), Mitt Romney (UT). Perhaps they need to hear from Conservatives.

I agree that they are stalling for time and yes, to try to change the minds of republican senators. What I think, however, is that Pelosi knows they don't have a fat chance in hell of getting that many to turn; I don't think a single one will turn to be perfectly honest but we shall see.

My gut tells me that this is the last bit of political circu they have left and they might very well try to withhold the Articles indefinitely; political suicide I think.

My question is this, if Pelosi doesn't formally "present" the Articles of Impeachment to the Senate, can the Senate move forward without it?

The word "impeach" just means that someone has been charged with something. So where I'm standing, Trump has been "charged" with something. It is up to a court of law to take that charge to trial. Am I right about this?

So this goes to a court of law with a Judge (Supreme Court Justice Roberts) presiding and the Senate as jurors. They need an a 2/3 v**e NOT to remove Trump from office, right? They need that 2/3 v**e. I wonder how the Dems are going to try to do that!

Since impeachment is a matter of record they should set a trial date and notify the House when it will be. If the House chooses it can present its evidence at that time. If they fail to show move for an acquittal for lack of evidence.

I think that Pelosi won't "officially" present the Articles of Impeachment to the Senate for consideration unless they can get assurances regarding what they perceive now as "fairness." I think McConnell might go ahead and call for a v**e but the democrats will not show up. I think two thirds of the Senate has to be present for a v**e.

I am not sure about the rules in this regard, however.

The Latvian government noticed “suspicious” financial t***sactions involving former Vice President Joe Biden’s son H****r B***n and several of his colleagues at Burisma, a Ukrainian gas company, according to a newly released document and a Latvian official.

The Office for Prevention of Laundering of Proceeds Derived from Criminal Activity in Latvia wrote to Ukraine on Feb. 18, 2016, telling officials there that the office “is currently investigating the suspicious activity of Burisma Holdings Limited.”

“According to publicly available information, Burisma Holding Limited and its director H****r B***n are involved in corruption affair [sic],” the letter, reported by One America News on Dec. 15, stated.

Latvia said it traced $14.6 million received by Burisma from Wirelogic Technology AS as payments for loan agreements between July 2012 and July 2014. The money was “partially t***sferred” from a Burisma account to Biden and three colleagues, including fellow American Devon Archer, who also sat on Burisma’s board for a number of years.

Viktor Shokin, the prosecutor who Joe Biden pressured Ukraine into removing in 2016, told One America News that the Latvia document and other such documents made it impossible for him to simply shut down a probe into Burisma, as he was asked to do by Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, before being ousted.

Latvian authorities asked Ukrainian counterparts for any evidence about the funds possibly being used for corrupt purposes but Arturs Saburovs, the third secretary at the Latvian embassy in Washington, told journalist John Solomon that Latvia didn’t receive any evidence back from Ukraine.

Saburovs said it didn’t appear as if his country alerted U.S. authorities, even as three of the four people named in the letter were Americans.

President Donald Trump’s personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, told One America News that the money t***sactions were “classic money laundering.

“It goes from Ukraine to Latvia—it’s disguised as a loan to another company, Wirelogic, I believe—it then goes to Cyprus, it’s disguised as another loan. Then it’s dispersed as payment of board fees. Now you don’t make two loans to pay board fees unless you’re laundering the money,” Giuliani told the broadcaster.

Trump is facing impeachment because of a request in July to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to “look into” allegations of corruption surrounding the Bidens, which Democrats said is an abuse of office since Joe Biden is running for the 2020 Democratic p**********l nomination.

State Department employees told lawmakers during impeachment hearings that there were concerns about what Giuliani was doing, but also expressed fears about H****r B***n’s position in Ukraine while Joe Biden as vice president was leading official U.S. government policy in the country. George Kent, deputy assistant secretary of state, said he took concerns to Biden’s office but the concerns weren’t acted upon. At one point, he intervened that year to stop a project that had developed between the department and Burisma.

“Burisma had a poor reputation in the business, and I didn’t think it was appropriate for the U.S. Government to be co-sponsoring something with a company that had a bad reputation,” Kent said.

Asked if she concurred with Kent on the Bidens and Burisma, former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch told lawmakers: “I think that it could raise the appearance of a conflict of interest.”

Emails recently received by Solomon under the Freedom of Information Act showed that Burisma representatives tried to pressure State Department employees in 2016 to stop corruption allegations against the company. In mid-March that year, the department’s top official for Ukraine called for Shokin’s ouster and Joe Biden forced Poroshenko to oust Shokin a few weeks later.

Biden told an audience in 2018 about what happened.

“I said, you’re not getting the billion. I’m going to be leaving here in, I think it was about six hours. I looked at them and said: I’m leaving in six hours. If the prosecutor is not fired, you’re not getting the money,” Biden said.

“Well, son of a [expletive]. He got fired. And they put in place someone who was solid at the time.”

Both Bidens have denied wrongdoing.

The probe into Burisma was closed within a year after Shokin was ousted, though Zelensky’s new top prosecutor has a team reviewing cases closed in the past, including the Burisma investigation.

‎Ruslan Ryaboshapka, the prosecutor, said in November that the probe into the founder of Burisma was widening to include embezzlement of state funds.

Don’t Pretend This Impeachment Is About the Constitution

David Harsanyi: Impeaching the president isn’t a Constitutional imperative. Nor is it a patriotic obligation. Democrats, who today ludicrously wrap themselves in the patina of “rule of law,” know this well. Not very long ago, they were rationalizing and cheerleading unprecedented abuses of power under the Obama administration. And they’ll be cheerleading for more abuses of the Constitution the next time they win the White House.

(NationalReview). It’s really about hatred, argues Victor Davis Hanson: When a party, an ideological movement, and an entire political agenda are based on hatred, people and policies become warped. The left-wing loathing of Trump has now tainted almost every Democrat’s agenda and unhinged most of the party’s major players.

(AmericanGreatness). Jonathan Turley: The Democrats acted like impulsive holiday shoppers. What’s most disturbing is that the Democrats know the current record of evidence falls well short of a viable case for conviction in the Senate. Nevertheless, they opted to move the impeachment by Christmas rather than build a stronger case for a v**e in early 2020.

We have now seen it all, even worse than we expected although we did expect this, didn't we. We are now hearing Pelosi say they will "withhold" the articles of impeachment until they can get the trial "they" want. Their BS is unwavering and never ending but so be it. After very unfair and unprecedented closed door hearings they now cry about "unfairness" in the up coming trial in the Senate. Let them cry! We will sit and we will wait. They had their turn and now we have ours. They can, for all the good it does, withhold these Articles of Impeachment forever. We will continue on, Trump will win re-e******n and we will win the House majority once again. The sheer stupidity/hypocrisy of the left/democrats is now fully on display. All their self-righteous speeches are now falling on deaf ears. They are so stupid and so unhinged focused on their h**e that not one of them have thus far realized that every Republican who spoke yesterday was calling the democrat liars and i***ts.

Did you know they have presented Articles of Impeachment against Trump seven times before even these? listen to the first part of McConnell's statement this morning. He spells out their efforts very clearly. Their impeachment efforts stem as far back as before Trump even became the Republican nominee. It is clear that any debate with those in support of this impeachment action is a waste of time. But hey, the sheer entertainment value of those who wish to argue for this impeachment to succeed will be priceless!
