Did it ever occur to you that as president, Donald Trump flies in and out of AIRPORTS all across America and around the world.

Did it ever occur to you that as he hosted a Salute to America, he honored America's AVIATION pioneers, including our astronauts.

Did it ever occur to you that during his praise of America's armed forces, he spoke of their deeds in war and peace. And, to punctuate his remarks about each branch of our armed forces, he announced a FLY OVER by AIRCRAFT operated by each branch. He even identified the types of AIRCRAFT they each would fly and what military AIRPORTS from whence they came. He capped the AIRCRAFT demonstrations with a FLY OVER by the Navy Blue Angels.

Did it ever occur to you that during the entire Salute to America message, President Trump was focused on AIRCRAFT, AVIATION, and obviously AIRPORTS.

One thing is certain from my many years here: most are firm patriots, no matter how much we may differ on that theme. But we are Americans, first and foremost, exercising our right to free speech. Tempers will flair. Passion will overtake reason. All of us may say something in the heat of the moment we regret or wish we had said something more clever and worse.

Yet then we go about our day as free people, shopping in supermarkets gorged with food and necessities, attend the spiritual center of our liking, play and relax in usual safety, trust our police and military, obey and honor our country's Constitution, taking the enormity and luxury of our liberty and plenty as the norm. And that is our exceptionalism. Few countries live this way or could possibly understand it. They may dream about such a place but then think themselves silly.

God has abundantly blessed us in so many ways and so deeply we cannot encompass it. This is just how it is to us, just how life is meant to be. Not until I entered the service in '66 did I begin to grasp what this country meant or how good my life was here. The strength of that epiphany nearly knocked me on my butt one morning at Fort Gordon basic training. I was astonished. The grace of being here had me in tears of joy. Not just for me but my whole family and all Americans. The world, really. I looked at the members of my squad differently, reverently.
