The issue in Italy is their huge older population. Of their last 500 deaths, the average age is 80.

Look at the graphs of other countries. The cases and deaths level off after about two weeks. It mutates quickly and loses its virulence. The projections of its severity, deaths/etc, are greatly exaggerated. Trump is going to be proven right, I think.

My youngest daughter used to make me take her to Korean movies. I found most to be pretty good, actually. Never saw any unmanly men either.

As for the Oscar's, they're a bunch of love themselves awards. I like the awards chosen by viewers. People's Choice, I think.

"The Centers for Disease Control has a $6.6 billion budget and one job which it messes up every time.

The last time the CDC had a serious workout was six years ago during the Ebola crisis. Back then CDC guidelines allowed medical personnel infected with Ebola to avoid a quarantine and interact with Americans until they showed undeniable symptoms of the disease. There were no protocols in place for treating the potentially infected resulting in the further spread of the disease inside the United States.

At the height of the crisis, confidence in the CDC fell to 37%. Meanwhile, CDC personnel had managed to mishandle Ebola v***s samples, accidentally sending samples of the live v***s to CDC labs. And the heads of the health bureaucracy blamed the lack of funding for their failure to have an Ebola v*****e.

The self-quarantine measures adopted in response to the c****av***s outbreak are partially a response to the lessons of the Ebola disaster.

But during the Ebola crisis, Democrats tried to shift responsibility from the Obama administration by blaming Republicans for cutting the CDC’s budget from $6.5 billion to $5.9 billion. Sound familiar? Where do those billions for the CDC actually go? Among other things, pushing gun control. The terrible budget deal from December allocated $25 million to the CDC and NIH to study gun violence.

During the Ebola crisis, the CDC had been spending a mere $2.6 million on gun violence studies. But the CDC has a history of wasting money on everything from a $106 million visitor's center with Japanese gardens, a $200K gym, a t*********r beauty pageant, not to mention promoting bike paths."

............
"There is a vast gap between what the CDC should be doing and what it does. What it ought to be doing is utilizing its unique specialties and capabilities to study dangerous contagious diseases. And the CDC’s capabilities in this regard are impressive. But what it ends up doing is battling social problems like obesity, the opioid crisis, or STDs because that’s what politicians, especially Democrats, want.

President Trump is right to hold the Obama administration accountable for the woeful state of the CDC. But the problem didn’t begin in 2008. And it isn’t limited to the CDC, but to the entire government.

The government is full of agencies, departments, and sections that do nothing but waste time and money. Some also manage to advance dangerous and destructive initiatives. But there are times when we urgently need these otherwise useless parts of the government to work correctly and quickly."

The occasional outbreak only calls the CDC’s general incompetence to everyone’s attention. The rest of the time its incompetence, like that of other government agencies, just ticks along wasting money."
..........
"Sociology isn’t science. V******y is.

Social welfare isn’t just a dangerous distraction, it prevents the CDC from making the right decisions about keeping infected people from entering the United States when lives are on the line.

The government doesn’t work because most of it is built on changing people’s minds, whether it’s winning hearts and minds in Afghanistan, or convincing everyone to drive electric cars in Wisconsin, instead of grappling with physical problems by applying physics and chemistry to the problem of the terrorists or economics to the cost of t***sportation.

We don’t need a CDC that changes people’s minds about eating chocolate or engaging in unprotected sex. There are already multiple redundant parts of the government that are trying and failing there.

We need a CDC that deals with v***ses instead of trying to brainwash people."

I received this from a friend.

We don’t entirely agree on how to deal with W***n…. I find the following email plausible.

It has to do with RNA sequencing... I.e. genetics.

Seasonal flu is an “all human v***s”. The DNA/RNA chains that make up the v***s are recognized by the human i****e s****m. This means that your body has some immunity to it before it comes around each year... you get immunity two ways...through exposure to a v***s, or by getting a flu shot.

Novel v***ses come from animals.... the WHO tracks novel v***ses in animals, (sometimes for years watching for mutations). Usually, these v***ses only t***sfer from animal to animal (pigs in the case of H1N1) (birds in the case of the Spanish flu).

But once, one of the animal v***ses mutate, and starts to t***sfer from animals to humans... then it’s a problem, Why? Because we have no natural or acquired immunity... the RNA sequencing of the genes inside the v***s isn’t human, and the human i****e s****m doesn’t recognize it so, we can’t fight it off.

Now.... sometimes, the mutation only allows t***sfer from animal to human, for years it’s only t***smitted from an infected animal to a human before it finally mutates so that it can now t***sfer human to human. Once that happens... we have a new contagion phase. And depending on the fashion of this new mutation, that's what decides how contagious, or how deadly it’s gonna be. H1N1 was deadly....but it did not mutate in a way that was as deadly as the Spanish flu. Its RNA was slower to mutate and it attacked its host differently, too.

Fast forward.

Now, here comes this C****av***s... it existed in animals only, for nobody knows how long...but one day, at an animal market, in W***n China, in December 2019, it mutated and made the jump from animal to people. At first, only animals could give it to a person... But here is the scary part.... in just TWO WEEKS it mutated again and gained the ability to jump from human to human. Scientists call this quick ability, “slippery”

This C****av***s, not being in any form a “human” v***s (whereas we would all have some natural or acquired immunity), took off like a rocket. And this was because Humans have no known immunity...doctors have no known medicines for it.

And it just so happens that this particular mutated animal v***s, changed itself in such a way, the way, that it causes great damage to human lungs.

That’s why C****av***s is different from seasonal flu, or H1N1 or any other type of influenza.... this one is slippery AF. And it’s a lung eater...And, it’s already mutated AGAIN, so that we now have two strains to deal with, strain s, and strain L....which makes it twice as hard to develop a v*****e.

We really have no tools in our shed, with this. History has shown that fast and immediate closings of public places has helped in the past p******cs. Philadelphia and Baltimore were reluctant to close events in 1918 and they were the hardest hit in the US during the Spanish Flu.

Factoid: Henry VIII stayed in his room and allowed no one near him, till the Black Plague passed...(honestly...I understand him so much better now). Just like us, he had no tools in his shed, except social isolation...

And let me end by saying....right now it’s hitting older folks harder... but this genome is so slippery...if it mutates again (and it will), who is to say, what it will do next.

Be smart folks... acting like you’re unafraid is so not sexy right now.

The fast mutating trait is in our favor. It will mutate again soon and be less virulent and possibly harmless. If true, that is how it fades.
