First, the argument is about changing/not changing the law.. I see it as an obvious changing of the law.
While the President as a great deal of leeway in how to administer the law, he can not legally change the law with a EO.
But the major question is; who and how makes the call.. that a person is likely to use any or all of those safety net programs?
It seems that whoever that person would be could simply say NO, without proof of any kind.. how would the argument be made for or against?
This is simply an easy way to refuse immigrants entry to our nation..
It is not in any way a method to cut costs for those programs..
and yes, past immigrants have made it without these programs, they nearly all showed up as Broke and unsk**led. were declared as intent on ruining our country, but now that we have the programs, excluding them access must be only based on much more then opinion or attempt to exclude particular ethnicity..

This reusing the old building has been proposed many times. in only a few occasions has it been done..
the latest, just south of Mpls, is the old fort Snelling military housing.. these will be done over the protest of a developer who wanted them torn down so he could build new on the bluffs overlooking both the Mississippi and the Minnesota rivers..
Often a real reason that repairs are not feasible, but more often, someone want to cash in on new development.

On some level, I agree with you. But....
Our aid to other countries is done for our own interests.. in some form or other..
the housing for immigrants/refugee gets set aside before it can go on the open market..
Builders have little reason to build affordable housing when on the same land they control they can build the high end housing/apartments which bring them more return on the same land area..
At least that is how it works down in the cities..
Maybe we should aim for this..

On another note, I went out to dinner last night with a friend I haven't seen in awhile. She had gone to Denver to visit her cousin, and said the city is full of homeless, and that there is such a problem with pickpockets there is a whole new squad of police downtown to try to protect tourists. WTH is going on in our country? Brings a question Deb,, to me it seems the homeless problem is getting worse rather then better as both parties have promised.. It is for sure in the twin cities..
