I think you are reading that just a little bit wrong. The law was at fault because it did not allow him to carry a gun to defend himself and his wife. You are twisting this to mean something it is not just like most liberals. Is the law Draconian? Sure is. Why, because the constitution says we can be armed and protect ourselves and the federal and state laws that take that away from you are Draconian in nature and leave you out on a limb with no means to protect yourself.

Now the liberals say we have police for that and is there to protect you. Where is that cop when the shooting starts? In every case, the police say they are not there to protect the individual, but to protect the society as a whole. That means that after the bad guys get done shooting you full of holes, the police will come and investigate. Does that REALLY make you feel better????

Let me see if I got this straight: it was the Draconian gun law and not a random act of violence, that may or may not have ended badly anyway, that did the carjacking and k**led that man? The two who did this are innocent? The law did the crime? Great defense. Make it happen for liberals everywhere.

It is well known your position on gun laws; there will never be enough until only the government and of course those who will have guns regardless of laws have them. The point of this thread is; had the laws not been in place then the thugs (yes, I know they are just misunderstood poor people that rob and steal because they are hungry and the rich hoards their money) may have thought twice about robbing this couple. Had the gentleman had a weapon he may have had a fighting chance. Your position of allowing only the government and thugs ownership of guns make people such as this man a target.

Interesting that you would raise up Henry Ford. It is common knowledge that Ford revolutionized the world of t***sportation and mass production with his Ford automobile plants that started in the United States and expanded into other parts of the world. What is not as well known is his fervent hatred towards Jewish people (a hatred shared by fellow super-financier J.P. Morgan) and Ford's f**grant financial and political backing of Adolf Hitler.

Ford's big wages was a sham, about half of the money paid was profit sharing, and the employees had to prove they were living upstanding and moral lives to get that extra pay. The automaker, with his anti-Semitism and intrusive social engineering, was deeply kooky.

But according to Stephen Meyer, a labor historian and professor emeritus at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, "Ford didn't pay so much because of beliefs about enriching workers. He had no choice."

According to Meyer, "in 1913, the year before Ford doubled wages, the turnover rate at his plants was 370 percent. In contrast, Walmart's turnover rate today is said to be 100 percent annually, still a very high number by today's standards."

"They wouldn't stay," Meyer said "they h**ed the work and they would just walk off the job or not show up." That meant that to maintain a workforce of 13,000 to 14,000 employees, the company had to hire 52,000 workers in a year.

It is also important to point out that car manufacturing was seasonal, most automobiles were sold in the spring. Therefore, there was a season for building and then prolonged lay offs. Ford's ability to pay ensured that when fall came, there would be ample people looking for work.

Henry Ford was not a C*******t, he h**ed Jews; was financial backer and friend to Adolf Hitler.

Companies pay what they must. When you hear that a large employer, whether it be Henry Ford or Costco, pays more than necessary, it generally doesn't mean that company is good-hearted. It means that company is good at public relations.

I do recommend that you read Meyer's book and some of his papers on economics. They are very educational.

I have given endless links showing that this standard line we get from Big Business loving Republicans that raising the minimum wage would be self-defeating because of inflation is totally false and, taking all factors into consideration, has a redemptive effect on the economy. Henry Ford, out of perhaps pure self-interest (that his workers could buy his cars), set an unparalleled wage and benefit hike for his employees, which other companies, to keep pace, had to follow. The result? The inflation rate dropped and the economy saw a big resurgence.

The assault on the working class has steadily gained momentum. Previous gains thanks to unions are gradually being undone. Thanks to Republican concessions to the elite oligarchy, the American middle class and the poor of this country are given this motto: "You're damn lucky to have a job; stop you're whining about work conditions, lack of benefits, low pay, no representation, long hours without overtime, or forced into part-time, or no paid vacation, or threats by my management that there are more where you came from, or longer hours with pay reductions getting the same salary for 60 hours that you did for forty. Freaking c****e. You're rule is over. This is America."

I ordinarily do not say this after reading just one post, but I sure do like you. I do not agree with your plan, but I think you are very smart and an excellent communicator!

There are reasons that you plan can not work; plans such as yours has been tried in the past and to the orchestrator's chagrin, well the only thing that happened is prices went up on everything, ergo the increase in salary only left the people in a worse bind than they started. Because now they are paying more taxes. Equaling less money in the pocket.

But, I do admire your effort!

Merry Christmas and please keep posting!

It may surprise you but I agree in part with what you say. I thought everyone would want to increase their job sk**ls, learn more and be worth more to society. But then my brother in law came along, he's about as useless as corn cob toilet paper. The last job he had he got fired from and I suggested to my sister (in his presence) that he avail himself of state educational benefits for the unemployed. He wouldn't hear of it. He retired early and hasn't hit a lick since. I'm older than him at 71 and still doing things to make money. BTW, he's very resentful toward me. You've made some valid points. But still, if you put more money in people's hands it will grow the economy (my brother in law excluded).

Not always. It depends on too many factors, sk**l and experience are not always the most imprtant. There was one other condition that you are not considering. What if the wife was armed and trained. I would not hesitate to shoot if someone I loved was being threatened! And gentlemen/ladies, I am trained and qualified.

Good Day Richard,

Wherein it is true that the job of a president is difficult and a break from it is good, except when the vice is also inept. There are few that would say that a family should not vacation. But, in 2010 - 2011, Ms. Obama did rack up quite a bill for herself and their children. Take for example:

GIRLS' TRIP TO SPAIN: AUGUST 2010
The exact cost is unclear as Mrs Obama and her 40 friends footed many personal expenses, such as hotels and meals themselves.

But the U.S. taxpayer would have paid for the First Lady's 68-strong security detail, personal staff, and use of p**********l jet Air Force Two.

Per diems for the secret service team runs at around $281 each - nearly $98,000 for the length of the summer break.

Use of Air Force Two, the Air Force version of a 757, comes in at $149,900 for the round trip. This does not include time on the ground.

Mrs Obama's personal staff, of which there are an unknown amount and might cost considerably more per day, should also be taken into account.

CHRISTMAS BREAK IN HAWAII: DECEMBER 2010

According to the Hawaii Reporter, the bill for the $1.5m trip included:

$63,000 on an early flight bringing Mrs Obama and the children to Hawaii ahead of the President.
$1,000,000 on Mr Obama’s return trip from Washington on Air Force One.
$38,000 for the ‘Winter White House’ beach property rental.
$16,000 to rent nearby homes for Secret Service and Navy Seals.
$134,000 for 24 White House staff to stay at the Moana Hotel.
$251,000 in police overtime.
$10,000 for an ambulance to be on hand at all times

SKI TRIP TO VAIL: FEBRUARY 2011

Mrs Obama and her daughters stayed at the Sebastian hotel on Vail Mountain, where rooms cost more than $2,400 for multi-bedroom suites.

The family appear to have flown there on Air Force Two.

They were escorted to the resort by a motorcade of about a dozen vehicles, including 15 state and local law enforcement officers

SUMMER HOLIDAY ON MARTHA'S VINEYARD: AUGUST 2011

The Blue Heron Farm estate, where the Obama family are currently staying, rents for about $50,000 a week.

According to U.S. News and World Report, the Coast Guard is required to keep ships floating near the property, the p**********l helicopter and jet remain at the ready and security agents will be on 24-hour duty.

Obama's vacation for 2012 cost the tax payers $20 Million
Obama and his family have spent quite some time on vacation: "Criticism of costly p**********l trips hasn’t deterred Barack Obama from setting a pace to establish a new White House travel record, even as the sequester continues to impose across-the-board cuts in federal spending.

“If the president travels in his second term at the same pace he did throughout the first, he will have spent 190 days abroad during his time in the Oval Office,” a recent study by the National Taxpayers Union concluded. “That would put him behind only George W. Bush and Bill Clinton as the most-traveled two-term presidents.”

I will not bore you with more facts. But, should you care, just gooole Obama and vacations..... you will get an eye full.

Tell me, if he cares so much for people in poverty, then why not travel to his mother's house and send those millions to the poor? A HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS can feed quite a few people. Or could go a distance in providing for our veterans.

I suspect that what you are trying to state as "fact"
is, in most cases, untrue. Obama is perfectly e titled to send his family off on expensive vacations, just as you are. The taxpayers did not pay for his family's vacations. Bush's giving up golf while we were fighting two wars was strictly a calculated political maneuver made to make him seem sensitive and caring, which he wasn't and isn't. Bush took far, far more days of vacations than Obama has. And Obama's vacations are just as much "working vacations" as Bush's were, and probably a lot more. Where is your information coming from ?
