This poem was published in the Denver Post sometime during the 1930s.
The poem can be found in The Assault of Laughter: A Treasury of American Political Humor, edited and with an Introduction by Arthur P. Dudden (New York: Thomas Yoseloff, 1962), 499-500. "Rejected" is attributed to “Anonymous.”
There's a very good discussion of "Rejected" in The Oxford Handbook of Modern
and Contemporary American Poetry edited by Cary Nelson (pages 304-316). Here it's attributed to V. M. Rodebaugh and was first printed in 1938.
This illustration was used in a "N**i propaganda version of 'Rejected,' distributed by rocket bombs aimed at the more than 800,000 American troops fighting at the Battle of the Bulge" around 1944 or 1945.
"Sometime near the end of the war, the Pan American Publishing Company of El Paso, Texas, issued . . . a folded postcard" titled "Hitler at the Gates of Hell" that was modeled after the Rodebaugh poem.

FDR at the Gates of Hell

A stranger stood at the Gates of hell
And the Devil himself answered the bell.
He looked him over from head to toe
And said: My friend, I'd like to know
What you have done in the line of sin
To entitle you to come within?
Then Franklin D, with his usual guile
Stepped forth with his toothy smile and said:
"When I took charge in '33
A nations faith was mine," said he.
"I promised them this and I promised them that
And I calmed them down with a fireside chat.

I spent their money in fishing trips
And fished from the decks of their battleships.
I gave them jobs in the WPA
Then raised their taxes and took it away.
I raised their wages and closed their shops
I k**led their pigs and buried their crops
I double-crossed both old and young
And still the folks my praises sung.
I brought back beer, and what do you think?
I taxed it so high they couldn't drink.
I furnished 'em money with Government loans
When they missed a payment I took their homes.
When I wanted to punish the folks, you know
I'd put my wife on the radio.
I paid them to let their farms lie still
And imported foodstuffs from Brazil.
I curtailed crops when I felt real mean
And shipped in crops from the Argentine.

When they started to worry, stew and fret
I got them to chant the alphabet
With the AAA and the NLB
The WPA and the CCC.
With these many units I got their goats
And still I crammed it down their throats.
My workers worked with the speed of snails
While the taxpayers chewed their fingernails.
When the organization needed dough
I closed their plants with the CIO.
I ruined jobs, I ruined health
And I put the screws on the rich man's wealth.
And some who couldn't stand the gaff
Would call on me and how I'd laugh.
When they got too strong on certain things
I'd pack and head for "Ole Warm Springs."
I ruined their country, their homes and then
I placed the blame on "Nine Old Men."

Now Franklin talked both long and loud
And the devil stood and his head he bowed.
At last he said: "Lets make it clear
You'll have to move, you can't stay here
For once you mingle with this mob,
I'll have to find myself a job."

Something about this year’s Academy Awards nominations has made people go full-r****d. Despite Hollywood being run by liberal elitists who financially prop up the Democratic Party, it is conservatives and the GOP that are getting blamed for the lack of diversity in the Oscar Nods. Unfunnyman Jimmy Fallon perpetuated this myth with a lack of self-awareness “joke” about how prospective Republican p**********l candidates are too damn white.

Here’s the joke that he tweeted out last night:

"This year’s Oscar nominees are so white, they just became the frontrunner for the 2016 Republican nomination."

I’m not a professional yuckster like Fallon, but I know jokes work best when they are grounded in t***h. Let’s take a look at the “diverse” group of democrats considering a run for the White House in 2016:

Hillary Clinton – The anointed front-runner is whiter than a polar bear eating vanilla ice cream in a snowstorm. She traces her family lineage back to when the Anglos met the Saxons. She is a jar of mayonnaise in a pantsuit.

Bernie Sanders – The independent socialist looks like the ghost of an albino. Doctors don’t have to use x-rays on him because they can see through his skin.

Martin O’Malley – The former Maryland Governor is so white he gets sunburn from standing in front of the TV. When he was mayor of Baltimore, they used him as a lighthouse to guide ships to the inner harbor.

Elizabeth Warren – The Massachusetts Senator who says she won’t run but probably will is literally the only diverse person in the democratic field because she likes to pretend she’s Native American despite her entirely European ancestry.

Joe Biden – The current VP and future former VP looks like he’s wearing a Sta-Puft Marshmallow Man costume. He’s so white he makes Michael Jackson look black. There is no distinct line between his white hair plugs and his white forehead.

That’s it. There are no other democrats exploring a 2016 run. No b****s, no Latinos, no Asians; just a bunch of frumpy old white people. Now, let’s look at some potential “too white” Republican candidates:

Ben Carson – The renowned neurosurgeon is black.

Herman Cain – The Godfather of pizza is also black.

Mark Rubio – The Florida Senator’s family hails from Cuba.

Ted Cruz – The Texas Senator is also Cuban.

Susana Martinez – Not only is the New Mexico Governor a woman, but she also happens to be a Latina.

Bobby Jindal – Louisiana’s Governor is the son of Indian immigrants.

Tell me again which party promotes diversity. Fallon’s joke would have worked better if he said: This year’s Oscar nominees are so white; they look like the Democratic National Convention. Or this year’s Oscar nominees are so white; they look like an Obama Hollywood fundraiser.

This lame duck POS has nothing left but to hammer the R's on social issues so it appears the R's "taketh away" what he is trying to "give" to that shrinking Middle Class..Not the least bit surprising...

Every bit of campaigning done by this slim ball has been to force social issues to the front rather than fiscal responsibility of the Nation..It is how he has "won" and it is exactly what he will be doing for the last 2 yrs of his "reign"...People relate to "what's in for me or what am I getting" over Country every time...And that's what He will insure now..The D's are in serious trouble for 2016 and all they have is the "gimme mentality of v**ers" to keep them alive..Strategy baby~~~And once again to the demise of the economic growth of our Country..
