President Obama will use his State of the Union address on Tuesday to call on Congress to raise taxes and fees on the wealthiest taxpayers and the largest financial firms to finance tax cuts for the middle class, administration officials said on Saturday.
The proposal — which will also push to reshape the tax code to help working families and raise $320 billion over the next decade — faces long odds in the Republican-controlled Congress, led by lawmakers who have long opposed raising taxes and who argue that doing so would hamper economic growth.
But the decision to present the plan signifies the start of a debate over taxes and the economy that will shape both Mr. Obama’s legacy and the 2016 p**********l campaign.

This, like the opening up to Cuba is long overdue. I will be interested to see
how the right will respond ....

I'll believe it when I see it.

Right now the shrinking middle class is merely an ATM for the government.

President Obama will use his State of the Union ad... (show quote)

==================================

Socialism, class warfare, hatred of capitalism, and despising anyone who has been successful in private enterprise.

That's Obama and his base of parasites who whine about everyone who has earned more than they have, the something fir nothing bunch who despise people who have labored and striven to be successful.

Take it away and give it to the parasites.

The shell game continues. I am all for relieving taxes on the middle class, but, I do not trust Obama to do a true tax reform, nor the congress. You could tax the wealthy at 100%, and it wouldn't solve the problem of government spending. Obama's legacy is one of failure after failure. You can't get past the run up in the debt of the US....Obama just kicks the can down the road. Now, it has happened under all presidents, but, Obama takes the blue ribbon for digging the hole deeper. It's not the wars, or the defense budget that is straining the economy. It is the onerous, incomprehensible regulation on business, commerce and the people. Base line budgeting is the smoke that the Dems use to villify the right as to "cuts" in government. If a program is scheduled for a 4% increase, and calls are for "only" a 3% increase, that is considered a "Cut"....It's not a cut! A cut would be -%. Keeping the programs with no increase would balance the budget in 5 years.
Eliminate the IRS. Go to a flat tax, fair tax or national sales tax.
People say the defense budget is to large. Hmmm...It's about 7% GDP.
In WWII, it was 20%. Rather than cutting defense, I say, pay these people more. They are a volunteer force. I can't think of a better social program. The reason why we have spent more for defense per GDP than all the other western countries is that we have protected them so they don't have to spend as much on defense. We had their back and their alliance. Obama has ruined that. There is a price to be paid for peace. A strong America is vital to this peace, and deterrence. Make no mistake, the world is not a calm political atmosphere....Better to be strong than weak.
Domestically? What has Obama accomplished? Lie after lie..That will be his legacy.

He may as well reduce their taxes, to match the reduction in income his policies have produced. Under Obama's matchless guidance so far, the gap between the very rich and everyone else has grown by leaps and bounds.

This lame duck POS has nothing left but to hammer the R's on social issues so it appears the R's "taketh away" what he is trying to "give" to that shrinking Middle Class..Not the least bit surprising...

Every bit of campaigning done by this slim ball has been to force social issues to the front rather than fiscal responsibility of the Nation..It is how he has "won" and it is exactly what he will be doing for the last 2 yrs of his "reign"...People relate to "what's in for me or what am I getting" over Country every time...And that's what He will insure now..The D's are in serious trouble for 2016 and all they have is the "gimme mentality of v**ers" to keep them alive..Strategy baby~~~And once again to the demise of the economic growth of our Country..

You could tax the "evil rich" at 100% of their income and it would fund Obama's government for a little over a month. The current Congress and Administration's idea of "checks and balances" is to write so many checks they (in other words "we" ) no longer have a balance. If anyone in the private sector attempted financial shenanigans of the sort politicians do every day, they would be lodged in the closest prison.

DEficits are not caused by too little taxing

Deficits are caused by too much spending

More tax on the rich wouldn't help the middle class one bit.fact is it would hurt, and I mean a lot.Dose any one think that taxing the rich wouldn't change any thing except to have the rich pull up roots and move to somewhere more friendly to there wealth. Think or at least ask yourself what if you were rich. Would you stay or find a place that would treat you right? So who is left to pay the tax on what the government to spend. If you said the middle class, you would be right. What needs to be done, and I'll keep it short. Is to take away the governments ability to use there credit cards at our expense. There are really thousands of government projects out there that don't need to be coming out of our tax money.Billions of dollars going to prop up other countries that really do h**e us. Yet we still haven't learned, money doesn't buy us love.let me put it this way. You can spend all your money on a fifth of whiskey and a hooker and all you will have to show for it is an empty wallet and a hangover. Spend that money on yourself and family and you would fell as though you have done some thing good that won't bit you in the but later down the road.

Let's see a hedge fund or holding company paying more tax will raise the price of what exactly?

We don't need to raise taxes on anyone. We just need to stop sending Americans hard earned tax dollars overseas to every other country!!!lets keep our money and take care of ourselves. We could solve a lot of Americas problems with the billions of dollars we hand over to other countries. These countries just receive handouts and get rich while we the people suffer and struggle everyday!
