College Student: My Generation Is Blind to the Prosperity Around Us

I'm sitting in a small coffee shop near Nokomis trying to think of what to write about. I scroll through my newsfeed on my phone looking at the latest headlines of Democratic candidates calling for policies to fix the so-called injustices of capitalism. I put my phone down and continue to look around. I see people talking freely, working on their MacBook's, ordering food they get in an instant, seeing cars go by outside, and it dawned on me. We live in the most privileged time in the most prosperous nation and we've become completely blind to it. Vehicles, food, technology, freedom to associate with whom we choose. These things are so ingrained in our American way of life we don't give them a second thought.

We are so well off here in the United States that our poverty line begins 31 times above the global average. Thirty. One. Times. Virtually no one in the United States is considered poor by global standards. Yet, in a time where we can order a product off Amazon with one click and have it at our doorstep the next day, we are unappreciative, unsatisfied, and ungrateful.

Our un-appreciation is evident as the popularity of socialist policies among my generation continues to grow. Democratic Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez recently said to Newsweek talking about the millennial generation, An entire generation, which is now becoming one of the largest e*****rates in America, came of age and never saw American prosperity.

Never saw American prosperity! Let that sink in. When I first read that statement, I thought to myself, that was quite literally the most entitled and factually illiterate thing I've ever heard in my 26 years on this earth. Many young people agree with her, which is entirely misguided. My generation is being indoctrinated by a mainstream narrative to actually believe we have never seen prosperity. I know this first hand, I went to college, let's just say I didn't have the popular opinion, but I digress.

Why then, with all of the overwhelming evidence around us, evidence that I can even see sitting at a coffee shop, do we not view this as prosperity? We have people who are dying to get into our country. People around the world destitute and truly impoverished. Yet, we have a young generation convinced they've never seen prosperity, and as a result, elect politicians dead set on taking steps towards abolishing capitalism. Why? Who is raising them?

The answer is this, my generation has only seen prosperity. We have no contrast. We don't know what it's like to live in a 3rd world. We didn't live in the great depression or live through two world wars, the Korean War, The Vietnam War or see the rise and fall of socialism and c*******m. We don't know what it's like to live without the internet, without cars, without smartphones. We don't have a lack of prosperity problem. We have an entitlement problem, an ungratefulness problem, we want it all for FREE and it's spreading like a plague." This plague will bring down all they have, I guess then they will understand!

They all have a security force with them whose job it is to keep them safe. Safe from what I'm not sure. I doubt if it is safe from themselves. As far as rats, i******s and druggies are concerned their safe due to "professional courtesy". As far as disease is concerned they probably think they are smarter than mother nature so are not concerned. However, should they catch a disease they could carry it back to their campaign headquarters. They may be wiped out without us having to lift a finger. Screwing with us is one thing but screwing with mother nature is another thing as she is unforgiving. Stupidity breeds failure. Look for the good in everything; it's always there.

However that's the best looking walker I've ever seen. Where are they sold? Do they float? A few of my friends and I walk on water. Na, more accurately we run across the top of the water when chased by the likes of a man eating fish or if the water is ice cold. It's amazing what one can do in a panic and forgets what's impossible.

Yeah, I've wondered about "thou shalt not k**l". K**l what, a person, an animal, an idea, a weed, insects, germs, someones ambition, enthusiasm? Just what does it include? Guess it depends on your religion, church, opinion, government, or wh**ever. Maybe it depends solely on your conscience. What if a person has no conscience? Oh how little we know. Yet we continue to argue.

General Eisenhower Warned Us.

It is a matter of history that when the Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces, General Dwight Eisenhower, found the victims of the death camps he ordered all possible photographs to be taken, and for the German people from surrounding villages to be ushered through the camps and even made to bury the dead.

He did this because he said in words to this effect:

'Get it all on record now - get the films - get the witnesses - because somewhere down the road of history some bastard will get up and say that this never happened'

This week, the UK debated whether to remove The Holocaust from its school curriculum because it 'offends' the Muslim population which claims it never occurred. It is not removed as yet. However, this is a frightening portent of the fear that is gripping the world and how easily each country is giving into it.

It is now more than 60 years after the Second World War in Europe ended. This e-mail is being sent as a memorial chain, in memory of the, six million Jews, 20 million Russians, 10 million Christians, and 1,900 Catholic priests Who were 'murdered, raped, burned, starved, beaten, experimented on and humiliated' while many in the world looked the other way!

Now, more than ever, with Iran , among others, claiming the Holocaust to be 'a myth,' it is imperative to make sure the world never forgets.

This e-mail is intended to reach 400 million people! Be a link in the memorial chain and help distribute this around the world.

How many years will it be before the attack on the World Trade Center

'NEVER HAPPENED',

Because it offends some Muslims???

Or some other people whom feel offended? Or decide the past is not "politically" correct?

Do not just delete this message; it will take only a minute to pass this along.

The t***h will never be hidden forever. Yes, it can be removed from history for some. But the some are few. Have faith. The right and honest citizens will win in the over all. The few will lose out. Stop worrying. The good out number the bad and unknowing. The unknowing will not count in the end. The bad will lose or change. Just look at the changes in philosophy and beliefs now occurring on a daily basis. Have faith, or continue to worry, what ever pleases you. I choose to have faith in my fellow citizens plus enjoy what I have now. Do not fall into the trap of fear or helplessness. You are not alone. I have seen, and made, a single phone call or statement totally stop a plot to destroy. Likewise I have seen a phone call or statement to support a cause of good solving a potential negative action. Have faith. Remain calm.

I know you are a beer drinker but in rough times like this maybe Jack would solve your downer better. As for the dog and hose, maybe the dog thought the hose was a snake and he/she was just trying to protect the family. If that proves true, educate the dog before you buy a new hose. Someone may have a story of their own that might make an impression on you! If your not there, you will never know who you could have blessed or who might have blessed you. I'm sure you know all of this already but it's my reasonable duty to God to tell you. And I have. I would really like to know what you saw or experienced though.

It wasn't morbid at all. It was very informative and loving. I will think about sending you a private message and what I feel may benefit you and others indirectly; maybe tomorrow. I fear not your judgement or judgement from anyone for that matter. Exposure is not a fear but I do prefer to remain anonymous. For 25 years I had no private life. The privacy I have now and for the past 10 years feels so good. The attention I give and receive from my loved ones is all I need or want.

So...where did Jesus say you would find God? Jesus said,"No man cometh to the Father but by me". so, God is not "inside you" to start with. How did you come across Him? Just curious...

It's a long story that most people probably would not believe. It starts with my parents meeting in a bible college with my father intending on becoming a minister and my mother, several years younger, dropped out when she became pregnant with me. My father and the church had a falling out. When I was middle aged I fell down an elevator shaft and was pronounced dead. What I experienced in the time frame of my "death" I told two others about it and the expression on their faces told me to just keep it to myself. I've always believed in God but without much knowledge as to why. I have never doubted the wisdom or existence of God since my "death". No church could teach me what I learned through my experiences; which is too bad. I'm not down on churches just feel they are limited. A lot could be written describing my experiences and life but to what benefit and to whom. A lot has been written, by others, about my occupational successes but not one word on the fact that God played a major role on my actions and decisions. Much the pity.

sisboombaa,
If you'll never find God in church, will you find him in a roadhouse? Jesus taught in the temple even at 12 years old. That WAS church back then. There are 2 sides to every coin. People wanted to drink alcohol and they did, prohibition or not. Gave rise to people like Al Capone. So, prohibition was a failure.

Flip that coin and here are some "sobering" facts;

In the US, one person is k**led every 39 minutes by a drunk driver.
Everyday 36 people die and nearly 700 are injured due to accidents caused by drunk drivers.
Nearly half of all teenage fatalities are caused due to drunk driving.
More males than females drive while intoxicated. According to statistics around 81 percent of all drunk drivers are men.
In 2007, alcohol-related deaths were 15, 387, which is approximately 37 percent of deaths that occurred in the United States.
The top five states with the highest number of alcohol-related deaths are Texas, Florida, Illinois, California and Pennsylvania.

Just take 2007 as a standard and multiply times 11 years. That's 169, 257 deaths from alcohol related accidents in 11 years. That's pretty sad too.

Church is where you find people who are not perfect but are at least trying to live according to the Bible and the teachings of Jesus. They dev**e time each week to go to church to worship and learn about Him. What is so wrong with that?
sisboombaa, br If you'll never find God in church,... (show quote)

In answer to your first question: I find God inside myself. You may too if you look within.
In answer to your last question: There is nothing wrong with going to church to worship if that is what a person desires. The churches do some good. I prefer to interact with God as an on going activity as opposed to once a week. Also, I don't need company to encourage me to "walk" with God.

It's an example of institutionalizing. The "stamp out smoking" campaign began as a way to break the power of "big tobacco", which was successful, then morphed into a way for the Federal Government to get it's claws into every State and every corner of every State, by tying non smoking policies to funding.

Government labs spent a great deal of time gathering "evidence" of the evils of tobacco, doing a lot of junk science and cute "show and tell" episodes for Congress ( probably using puppets to keep them from drifting off ). The various cancer societies realized that the anti-smoking agenda was a gold mine, as did the Congress and State Legislatures, which justified huge "sin taxes" on tobacco by citing the junk science previously mentioned.

Local, State and the Federal Government, brings in 100's of billions annually with the tobacco sin taxes, and uses 1/10 of 1% of those proceeds for the purposes stated as the "reason" for the tax. The States taxes were for various projects, like my own State citing a need to build a State wide level one trauma system. My State has the exact same trauma system it had 10 years ago, when it doubled it's tobacco sin tax. The Federal money will get you a list of "support" and a c**pon for nicotine patches, which is all you'll get, even though the huge tobacco sin tax was supposed to compensate the health insurance industry for tobacco related illnesses severe drain on it's resources AND provide treatment for those addicted to tobacco.

Smoking is bad, because the Government says it is. The next "anti" pogrom, to further increase revenues, will be the campaign against fat people. The over weight person who also drinks and smokes...............is thoroughly f*cked.

Yep. Sooner or later we all die regardless of what we do or not do. I'm on borrowed time and when I die the local, state and federal governments will take a big financial hit due to my lack of paying taxes. I'll probably be replaced with an i*****l i*******t that doesn't pay taxes. I think it is what the governments want. At least it appears that way as it is the direction the governments are taking.
