Faith, did you really read Coreys' piece? He never suggested you give up your Church or Faith. He said you and the Churches should step up and fill in where the Government had been before the shutdown! In other words: "Walk the walk, don't just talk the talk". If the Church(s) are against government assistance, then fill in the blanks with your own contributions to the needy, and let the government pull out, altogether!
If you did read his column, you seem to be unable to comprehend what he was saying! I know better. I've seen
it in your posts!.
Reread it....

I will warn you. Prepare for RANT ON...NOW!!!!
You want the churches to step up to fill the need then tell the bloody ffycin government to get out of the way. Let me us a microcosm of what I mean.
Within five miles of my home are five churches of varying faiths. EVERY single one of these churches years ago served one meal per day, six days a week to people in need of food. They also collected from congregants clothing to provide to individuals coming for meals. The congregants volunteered to cook and bring various vegetables, desserts, etc. Others would provide bags, containers, utensils, etc. so the individuals served could take a small portion with them for an evening meal. Fresh and packaged fruit was brought to send with the people being served. The two meats were prepared in the church kitchens. Do you know why these five food programs no longer exist? The bloody flycin government is why!!!! In their infinite wisdom, they determined such activity could not continue because; 1. The church kitchen did not have county restaurant rated stoves and ovens, hence, could not be used. 2. The food brought from volunteers was not safe, though not one single illness had occurred in ten years, because it was not prepared in a county approved, licensed and inspected kitchen. 3. The county dietitian/nutritionist determined they could not find a way to rate nutritional value. 4. The packaging of food to be taken did not meet county requirements. 5. There were not sufficient bathrooms in the churches. They cared not a whit that approximately 700 individuals were being fed at NO expense to the government!!!! They only cared that their satuljice regulations were not met, were gaining no licensing fee dollars and making the county look bad. The county shut them down. The county the opened a facility which feed a total of three hundred three days a week. You do the bloody math on that. I do not feel like typing out the number of individuals who lost out on food.
Now, enter the government again. Let us take the three private church schools with a community service requirement of ten hours per week. One of the options for service was sandwich preparation for homeless individuals. Again, parents would five days per week provide, meat, cheese, peanut butter, jelly and added fruit to the list. Students would gather in assembly lines with each having an assigned task in sandwich making, bagging, etc. The students were making approximately 50-75 sandwiches per day. It was the county's determination this was unacceptable. The reason, gosh the food components were not purchased through a certified, licensed food distributor. The county had no way of determining if the food had been stores to restaurant standards, etc. Again, you can do your own math as to how many people ceased having a sandwich and piece of fruit. My minimum would be five days per week times 50 equals...hmm....250.
And next, let us not forget the bloody flyciin county informing these groups they COULD NOT provide clothing or blankets (used) directly to the people they were feeding, as the county could not determine if it had been cleaned to county standards utilized in medical facilities.
Shall we next go to the Catholic High school whose students determined their service project would be establishing a shelter in the gym. Teachers and parents volunteered to chaperon the students work at night. You well may ask how the county shut this bit of charity down. There were six showers available. They were going to house approximately thirty people. Absolutely not, per the county. You have to have at least ten showers. You have to have towels from a county licensed linen provider. No towels from home.
DO NOT tell me the churches should step in. Long before this time they have tried to "walk the talk" and it IS NOT allowed.
Rant over....maybe.
