The independent bookstores that are within walking distance of my home have been here for years and have not been bought up by anyone. Furthermore, on Piedmont Avenue in this city there are six other independent bookstores that have not been bought up. And there are at least that many scattered elsewhere in this city that are owned by the proprietors. Evidently our situation in this respect is healthier than in many places elsewhere.
