Whoa--the police certainly ARE charged with preventing crime!
If they weren't -heh-heh-heh-why bother with patrols and all that? If a police officer suspects or sees a crime going down--they are duty bound and have sworn an oath to try to stop it-as in 'prevent' the crime from happening! And-been there done that!
As for gun control-it simply does not work! A spectacular if not controversial and on the money scientific analysis -in fact does exist. Read Prof. Lott's 'More Guns Less Crime' second edition. Don't have to read the whole thing-just the prologue. And despite the critics-his work (and several others)continues to confound 'pointy headed ivory tower nay-sayers'. Pssst--yesterday-100 million--again-100 million American gun owners DID NOT use their guns to commit a crime! Why do all the laws 'they' (the either ignorant or just plan unwilling to see the truth) wanna pass laws that seem to affect only lawful gun owners? Pssst-there are literally thousands of laws currently on the books--use em to come down hard on the bad guys-not on me and other law abiding owners and users! And you are gonna love this-(at the risk of being a little verbose)--but consider this--The second amendment to the Constitution is a 'LIBERAL' idea! For citizens to own guns is practically unheard of in history. In fact, there are numerous examples where just being caught with a 'gun'-meant summary execution under many 'governments'. As in you were shot or killed on the spot. Those were conservative governments and people doing the killing were not LIBERALS! So here in America along with the rest of our very-very liberal Constitution, we get to own guns to prevent tyranny and all that. Tyranny is CONSERVATIVE--Democracy is LIBERAL--who woulda thunk it? So does ya still wanna be one??--heh-heh-heh-. It is past time for 'us' (and here I mean Liberals) to see (and defend) the issue from the right perspective. The gun issue should be 'owned' by us Liberals--the same people it was intended to protect right from the get go! The conservatives are the folks who enslave people-they are the BAD guys----Liberals--well-we be the folks who fight and die to set and keep us all free! Interesting huh?

Maybe you should try another topic, Like idiots who don't know that our economy is in the crapper, and getting a job is easier said than done. And Why don't you work for minimum wage, and still need Government help as well. Like the old saying goes walk a mile in their shoes! I would be willing to bet you are one or two paychecks away from needing help yourself.
