This is a political forum and there is a certain right we all enjoy and that is free speech. If you don't enjoy participating in political debate then stick to the chit chat side which is non-political.

giving up on the "political speech forum" has allowed the left to monoploize the subjects, and conversation.
He needs to buck up and voice his opinions,,, or submit to the control of leftist idiots, like khhzero,, glaucon, and rumitoid,,, who relish the idea of passive aggressive control...

Freedom of speech is indeed a right, but it is also a responsibility for maintaining that freedom,,, not allowing your noisy know nothing liberal neighbor to run their ignorant yaps incessantly,,, while shutting down all other voices....

Yep,,,, we used to do Air to Air with them,,, and you could see the smoke trails..... and hear them as they went by...if you saw them in time you could evade, low,,, and scatter your signature.

When the F18s came online,,,the game was up,,, you couldnt see em,,, and couldnt get away from them..Best thing to do,,, was hover low, transfer control to the co-pilot and jump out!!

Grab the crew chief and first mech on the way out,,, and yell back,,,, "Its all yours LT,,, dont forget to log First Pilot time!!"

We frequently had air support from the F4 guys in 69-70. There was one outfit of 4's that had nose mounted 20mm. Cant recall their call sign. I liked how they pulled out of bomb runs, went inverted and flew back over the target upside down to check the damage. Always wanted to do that! A10's were amazing too. They could get dirty and fly formation with us rotorheads. Heard they could carry their own weight in ammunition. dont know for sure.

Seven months after the military began an investigation into the disappearance of Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl and his capture by the Taliban, which held him for five years, a new report indicates Army officials have determined Bergdahl — for whom the administration traded five top Gitmo-held terrorists — will be charged as a deserter.

You and me both! Love the A-10 and the P-38. Badass to the bone American know-how. The AF is looking to retire the A-10, I hear. What they should do is start production on them again.

Guys, guys, while we're reminiscing - Let's not forget the warhorse of all warhorses, the invincible A-1. McDonnell-Douglas dominated the skies over Vietnam with this bird and the F-4.
As for the most beautiful aircraft - I was Plane Captain/Mechanic/B.N. on the North American A-5 Vigilante. This bird was modified from a Mach II+ high altitude (50,000 ft.+) bomber to become a super sophisticated, high tech super snooper. This bird was tasked with elint and photo mapping of the entire S.E. Asian theater. All of this was accomplished while unarmed, yes unarmed over enemy territory. It only had electronic countermeasures to rely on.
Thanks for the memories gentlemen!

Thanks for you contribution. I remember when at MCRD San Diego the Navy was just beginning to fly the century series aircraft. Was always impressed when the afterburners were kicked in. After turning down a commission in the Marine Corps I had the opportunity, which I turned down, for a commission in the Air Force. Sometime, in the early morning hours, I wonder what my life would have been like if I had taken either course. Most definitely would not have nine children, 27 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren. Probably wouldn't have remained married to the same woman for over 55 years. No regrets, but sometime I wonder.

Too much that can go wrong with them. Too expensive to build and maintain.

I used to have a Ford F100 with a 300 straight six. Ford made that same engine block for probably 50 years because it worked and worked well.

That's the A-10. And the B-52...how many years and they're still using them?

As you said, too much can go wrong. For that same reason I am not a fan of sun roofs and power almost everything. Too many opportunities for a malfunction. How often have we been unable to operate a television set, if we watch one, because we couldn't find the remote?
