Ve'hoe: If you looked real hard you could see the Phantom over a 100 miles away in the Mojave Desert! The Phantom did everything good....but not great!!!!

Sure you could, that plane left a smoke trail a blind person could see.

It only left a smoke trail at low altitude. J-79's aren't made to be fuel efficient. I flew rear seat, multiple times, in a dual control trainer version of the F4-B when I was stationed in Albuquerque in '62 & '63. What a kick in the ass, especially in max a/b!

Yep,,,, we used to do Air to Air with them,,, and you could see the smoke trails..... and hear them as they went by...if you saw them in time you could evade, low,,, and scatter your signature.

When the F18s came online,,,the game was up,,, you couldnt see em,,, and couldnt get away from them..Best thing to do,,, was hover low, t***sfer control to the co-pilot and jump out!!

Grab the crew chief and first mech on the way out,,, and yell back,,,, "Its all yours LT,,, dont forget to log First Pilot time!!"

The most beautiful aircraft in our arsenal, but the A-10 is what is needed for the combat actions the U.S. finds itself in now. I always loved the P-38. What a great ground support aircraft.

In reading the posts this is what I would like to see on the site. Intelligent, meaningful discussions rather than idealogical rants. Thanks for the post.

You are welcome. Thank you for your service to our country. I agree about the Warthog. A flying machine gun. :-D

You and me both! Love the A-10 and the P-38. Badass to the bone American know-how. The AF is looking to retire the A-10, I hear. What they should do is start production on them again.
