The Breitbart article started the ball rolling with the erroneous assertion. That article was linked to by WND.

Then the partisan blogosphere picked it up and ran with it.

I read the original article on Breitbart.com. Once they learned that they were gravely in error in claiming that President Obama's AG nominee worked as Bill Clinton's counsel and staffer, they posted a correction to that effect at the article's bottom. Then they yanked the story for several hours. Now,the reworked version linked above is up. Note the correction at the bottom:

"Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly identified Loretta Lynch as having represented the Clintons during the Whitewater scandal. That portion of the article has been removed."

Anyone who recklessly and wilfully disregards the truth and with malicious intent publishes defamatory information about another is committing libel -- even if the subject is a public figure.

If I were a partisan hack with a history of utterances of hatred and vitriol against this public figure, I would think long and hard about publishing a claim that the president's nominee was involved in a Clinton-era smear campaign, knowing as you do from the link above your assertion is false.

Easily confused my ass. One is black and the other is white. They knew that a sitting Federal Prosecutor could not be involved in partisan politics, but they published the garbage just the same. They publish many lies in that right wing rag and never go back and print corrections. For all of you OPP posters who post crap from the britefart site, remember......garbage in, garbage out.

President Obama was loaded with all kinds of praises and accomplishments of the nominee Loretta Lynch. Every word that comes out of the tongue of president Obama must not be taken seriously as he had already proven several times the falsehoods of his words.

That is why Congress and the Senate must vet this nominees or any nominees to select the most qualified candidate who could serve the American people effectively without regards to race, creed, national origin, gender, and social leanings. it is very important that those in the elected office, those in the appointed office must work for the American people and not for the party or race that they belong.

The American people is the ultimate reason why they are hired to serve, and it is the American people who pay their salaries and benefits. Therefore, they have to serve according to the constitutional framework in their duties.

Currently the Atty. General Erick Holder, had made so many decisions, actions biased against the Republicans, Conservatives, Christians, and the white people in general.
He was not hired to serve the blacks only or the democrats only, or the dictates of his superior. He was hired to serve the American people.

Therefore similar behavior of the next Atty. General must not be considered. Based on prior experiences and decisions, these factors will contribute greatly to the selection process. Thank you.

But they were looking at the Bio of another Loretta Lynch who was not a Prosecutor. Poor journalism in any event.

What is your hidden agenda in life? He pick a qualified person for AG. Someone qualified, earned her time, worked hard, sacrificed on her journey, possibly not the best decisions at times, dedicated, determined, forthright, committed, less controversial than most, & deserving. Who would you have chosen or rather have seen? The same context applies. Don't hate because she is black, beautiful, & brave enough to jump into the cesspool with a life jacket "on".

No choosing a candidate more qualified than anyone you may know was probably unlikely for MR. PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA to have selected, is not his fault. So, instead he selected someone he knew more qualified and she happens to be a BLACK WOMAN. It was not by design. However, the road to WH has always been by design. You know he can only catch hell from the very people who are ignorant to the truth. WAKE UP!! IT IS STILL A RACIAL SOCIETY WE ALL LIVE IN. There is nothing post-racial about it.

I am saying that the process must be done according to the requirements of the constitution. All nominees must be vetted, and whoever has the best qualifications working for the American people, that is the person. Regardless of race, color, creed, and national origin, male of female.

Vetting is the most effective process and has to be applied to all. Blacks must follow like any nominees. Your description will then be compared with the findings. Just because Obama and you, want her does not mean that she must be chosen.

i AM SAYING SHE OR ANYONE ELSE MUST BE CHOSEN. i AM SAYING HE SELECTED A CANDIDATE, NOW LET THE VETTING PROCESS BEGIN. PEOPLE ARE OPPOSE TO ANY THING HE SAYS & DOES. FOR CRYING OUT LOUD, CONDEMNED BEFORE SHE OR ANYONE GETS OUT THE GATE.

Yes. But right-wing bloggers are continuing to repeat the story as if it's true. Many of them on boards where one can't even offer a rejoinder.

And, as you can see here, many right wingers shrilly and uncivilly try to shout down anyone who offers a counterpoint -- especially, it seems, when it's based on incontrovertible fact such as: attorney general nominee Loretta Lynch did NOT serve as counsel and staff to President Clinton.

Well, Breitbart did at least publish a correction. The problem is that the right-wing blogosphere is continuing to spread the lie.

Obama AG pick was Clinton 'bimbo eruption' fixer

By Aaron Klein

Loretta Lynch, President Obama’s pick to become the next attorney general, once worked for Bill Clinton’s campaign, where it turns out she co-authored a memo aimed at discrediting alleged Clinton mistress Gennifer Flowers and stopping any news coverage of her claims.

Flowers is the model and actress who claimed publicly to have had a 12-year-long affair with Clinton.

Hers was only one of several embarrassing stories of extramarital affairs former Clinton staffer Betsey Wright labeled “bimbo eruptions” needing to be quelled in the press.

During testimony in January 1998, Clinton admitted to having a sexual relationship with Flowers.

Yet Lynch’s memo sought ways to portray Flowers “completely as a fraud, liar and possible criminal.”

Lynch worked for Clinton’s presidential campaign and also served as on the defense attorney team that represented Bill and Hillary Clinton in 1992 during the Whitewater investigations.

Archived documents show that Lynch, together with campaign operative Nancy McFadden, co-authored a confidential Feb. 16, 1992, campaign memo entitled “Possible Investigation Needs.”

Under a section entitled, “Defensive Research: Tying up ends and seeing ahead,” the memo’s first item addresses the need to discredit one “GF,” which from the context was a clear reference to Gennifer Flowers.

Reads the Lynch-McFadden memo: “Exposing GF: completely as a fraud, liar and possible criminal to stop this story and related stories, prevent future non-related stories and expose press inaction and manipulation.”

Last February, nine months before Lynch’s name was announced by Obama as his Attorney General pick, San Francisco Chronicle columnist Debra Saunders referenced the Lynch-McFadden memo as part of what the writer labeled “The Clintons’ war on women.”

Saunders reminded her audience that “it turns out Flowers wasn’t the ‘liar’ in this little tale,” since Clinton “admitted under oath to having had sex with Flowers.”

“The McFadden-Lynch memo serves as a reminder of what the Clinton machine does to women who speak out. They become loose ends who need to be tied up,” wrote Saunders.

With research by Brenda J. Elliott.

The agenda just keeps going on and on!...Is there a closet in the Beltway that doesn't have a skeleton in it...again all by design!

Wrong Lynch

The Loretta Lynch referred to in the New York Times article is a California based attorney who has worked on several prominent political campaigns, not Attorney General nominee Loretta Lynch

Nominee Lynch became a federal prosecutor in 1990, two years before the other Lynch participated in the Whitewater investigation. In 1999 she was appointed by President Clinton as a U.S. Attorney and she currently serves as U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York.

The one who began working with the Clinton campaign in 1992 and was on the legal team during the Whitewater hearings is this woman, written up by the San Diego Union-Tribune in 2004:
Quote :

Loretta Lynch
Personal: Born Feb. 22, 1962, in Independence, Mo. Lives in San Francisco. Single.

Gray Davis, 1999; deputy policy director with Bill Clinton’s 1992 presidential campaign; partner, law firm Keker & Van Nest, San Francisco, 1991-99; special counsel, Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles, 1990-91.
