And just how do you tell she is not blabbing? If I tell Zeus something he invariably walks over to Tank and soon they are making grumbling sounds to each other, so I think they are passing on the gossip. Fortunately I can't speak dog so I can't be sure, but every once in a while when they are mumbling, they will turn around and look at me in the strangest way, so I'm sure information was passed from one to the other. When SWMBO fixes their dinner, if only one is watching, she will tell that one to tell the other it is dinner time and the first one will trot off to the second one then they both will head to their crates to wait for dinner.Go figure.

No Prop,

I'm surprised with all your canine acumen, you have never observed man's best friend employing much more than just sounds to discover and share his knowledge, thoughts & feelings. Cats like women, may overshare at times, with their otiose verbiage and/or whines and cries.

No my friend, dogs neither babble or blab. If you really want to "speak dog", you must go down to their level and, I don't mean intellectual either. For dogs use means other than sounds to make themselves understood.

You have heard about this, no doubt?

"Circular reasoning (Latin: circulus in probando, "circle in proving"; also known as paradoxical thinking or circular logic) is a logical fallacy in which the reasoner begins with what they are trying to end with."

Here is a small pack of paradoxical thinkers that I believe illustrate my point and is, `er... right on the nose?

It may account for the fact that after all these millennia, not many men have learned the canine language or, even cared to for that matter.

I prefer reading their body language. For instance in this photo the German shepherd is one step away from going after the dog sniffing his/her rear, and the Australian cattle dog has decided to stay out of the sniff a thon Of course sniffing of this nature is the dog's equivalent of a handshake, and maybe the cattledog doesn't care enough to get aquainted.

Both cats and dogs might as well be speaking Liberalish as far as I'm concerned, I don't understand either one of them much, as my fence sign indicates...

It's the psychotic ones that want to fight all the time, we pray that they'll run off someday and, they usually do. It's your call to decide which feline I'm referring to OG. :XD: :XD:

Have you ever read about interpreting the sounds that your cat makes? It is some interesting reading I tell you, so enjoy!

10 Sounds That Cats Make -- and What They Mean

Cats have about 100 vocalizations, which they mix and match to talk to us because we can't read their exquisitely expressive body language.

You’ve probably noticed that cats spend a lot of time and energy communicating with other cats in their lives, but that very little of that communication is in the form of meows. If they talked as much as they gestured, the odds are good that you’d wish they’d just shut up. Of course, since most humans aren’t nearly as good as observing body language and understanding the feline communication of subtle ear movements and tail twitches, they often “use their words” to help us understand what they’re feeling and what they want.

Cats’ vocabulary is just as rich and subtle as their body language. Here are some of my favorite feline sounds and what they mean. Let’s start with the basics.

1. The meow

Kittens are much more likely to meow than adults. Since kittens are born unable to hear and see, they make this noise to alert their mother that they need attention. Adult cats rarely meow at each other, but they may meow at us for the same reasons.

2. The purr

Cats purr when they’re content, but they also purr as a way to comfort themselves when they’re sick or injured. The auditory frequency of the purr, around 25 cycles per second, is thought to have healing properties, and it almost certainly acts as an internal massage.

3. The trill

Cats use a trill, a sound somewhere between a meow and purr, as a friendly greeting. This cutie is meowing and trilling to beat the band!

4. The growl

The growl is clearly a warning sound. Cats growl at one another to say “Back off before I have to use my claws rather than my voice!”

5. The chatter

If your cat sits in the window staring at squirrels outside, ears erect and eyes focused, but he can’t get outside to chase them, he may make a chattering noise. This communicates either excitement or frustration.

6. The hiss

Cats hiss when they’re afraid or angry. The hiss is the next stage of warning after the growl.

7. The yowl

Female cats in heat make this desperate cry, hoping to attract tomcats to ease their pangs of kitten-making desire. The scream, a variant of the yowl, is the final vocal warning before a serious fight begins.

8. The beep

When my cat Thomas wants to get in my lap, he’ll often sit on the floor staring up at me and make a quick “bip” or “eck” sound. I interpret this as “Ahem … excuse me.”

9. The burble

This noise is a hybrid between a purr, a meow and a growl. The burble has no negative meaning even though it incorporates a growl.

10. The wail

(Needs no interpretation)

OG, I got an anonymous PM from some cat, that explained to me you and this anonymous furperson... well, read for yourself and I quote,

"What we've got here is failure to communicate"

So, I hope I helped to bridge the gap, what are friends for anyway?

Thank you for the info. I have learned about three meows meanings, along with several tail movements. I have also learned about claws, when they are playful, and sometimes they are, and when they are not so playful. I have endeavored to have Elliot teach me but, I am afraid he feels I am not an apt student of feline 'conversations'.

PS...
Love your 'short and sweet' sign.

You're welcome anytime OG and,

Muchas gracias mi amigo!

I guess one of my favorite things to this day is giving mi amigo a catnip toy and watching the reaction. Kind of like slipping your best friend a hit of acid or something... :XD: :XD: :XD:

This is my test for cats to see if the nip needs to be put back up...

You're not drunk if you can lie on the floor without holding on.

When they can't even do that, playtime is over!

I can't recall trying to hold on while in a supine position, but then I don't recall a heckuvalot while in that position.

My Elliot loves his cat nip. I have heard, but can't verify, that cat nip to a cat is analogous to pot for a human.

As I understand it, both plants are from the same family and have very similar DNA. I have never smoked cat nip so I couldn't tell you what it might do for people, or rather against reason. Some dogs react like cats regarding cat nip. As I understand it, rabbits react like cats do, but why anyone would want to get a rabbit stoned is beyond me.

None of my Loppy's cared for cat nip, nor have I ever cared for pot.

Welcome Res! You're some welcome relief here, we have more flamers and verbal pyromaniacs on here to burn an entire forest down most weeks. That's why this forum is known as OPP, a.k.a. the Naughty Ham Forest. We need a new sheriff and, it looks like you're it.

Just a little tried and true advice here, try using those planes to dump water on the trolls, hosing them down just seems to make them angrier.
