Yes, an admiral thing to do ~We HAVE to take a break , so lets just drop the worldly affairs and go play....

Personally I'd pay to book BO on every golf course world wise just to keep him gone...

And give Senate the rest of the term off too...Congress, let them play, the country will run more efficient because of it!!

The domino effect of this break is that Senate will have to back off, BO will play more golf and everything will remain as screwed up as it is anyway..

Actually the concept of air conditioning dates back to ancient Egypt. However, the format that is used now was invented by Willis Carrier in 1902. His claim was that he could make summer into winter. The first private home to have AC was in North Carolina in 1933. In 1945 the portable, or window AC was introduced. FDR had the first unit installed at the WH, also in 1933.

Did you know that the summer break is mandated? The Legislative Reorganization Act of 1970 requires that the House and Senate take a break “not later than July 31 of each year,” or in an odd-numbered year “that Friday in August which occurs at least thirty days before the first Monday in September (Labor Day). If you total up their "breaks" it would average 250 days each year.

Notice that I am not giving an opinion on another break, just pointing out the Act that required their last break.

That's the key then, let's just pay them by the hour

Now you are talking. They have never been paid hourly, so perhaps a change would see more work and less talk or parties.

Great idea!

What is going on is Cronyism. Congress is not supposed to Spend. Thomas Jefferson wrote to James Madison that those that declair war are not those that pay the bills. In other words Congress raises Revenue, gives it to the President and he is supposed to spend it and not blow the budget. The Founders did not want 5350 thumbs and fingers in the Revenue Pie. Tell your Congressman to stop bringing home the bacon. RWM

No doubt. Would you? A cush job, great perks to include medical/dental, ample vacation, plus retirement for yourself after 5 years and should you pass away, there is an even better survivor's benefit plan. And the pay is quite ample. Then the talk circuit once retired, and book deals.... all in all, not a bad gig!!!

On the news today it was announced that congress was taking a 7 week break. What are they thinking? We have so much that needs to be done. We are now at war. America needs them and they don't seem to care. I am shocked and disappointed. The President will have to act on his own and people will call him a dictator. Congress is a big problem They will still be paid for nothing while America suffers.

They have already passed the only two bills that will ever get through the Senate, and that is the continue spending resolution (spending cap), and they approved the funds to fight ISIS (and arm the so-called moderate rebels in Syria). Anything else they do will be tabled by Harry Reid. BTW, this is nothing new, the Democrats did it too, when an election is coming up.

All politicians do this, it gives them time for fund raising and for the commercials damning their opponents.

The executive order used by all presidents is made neccesary in the absence of congress. Want executive orders to be minimal--- make congress get to work and do what is neccesary to make our country work.

It is normal practice since so many on both sides are headed into the final weeks leading up to elections. They have to be back home. That is how our system works.

You need to have this conversation with Harry Reid, he is currently blocking 364 House bills.

Executive orders are a president's prerogative, but they were never intended to circumvent the Constitution or replace the job/responsibility of the Congress.

Doesn't Boehner and McConnell feel ashamed of their hypocrisy. While they are always criticizing the President for playing golf when this crisis or that crisis is raging. They just quit doing their job and go home. They go on vacation at a time when Conservatives are telling us ISIS is about to break into our homes. They feel no obligation to the United States, they merely declare a seven week vacation, for themselves. After all they are not working for the United States, heck they're not even working for their respective States or Districts, they're working for which ever Corporation or Corporations, they've sold out to. Whichever Lobbyist that has bought and paid for them. I mean really who are the real "Cowards" in this country? The simply choose to stick their head, in the sand, so they won't jeopardize their chances of being reelected. And why are they so scared of losing their Congressional seat, because there is BIG money to be made, being a Congressman. And I'm not talking about the "piddley" amount of money they receive from their salary. That's mere "chump change". I'm talking about the "real" money they get from Lobbyists.

On a brighter note, it's looking better for our chances of turning Kansas from "Red" to "Mauve". You can't turn this state completely "Blue", too many of my fellow Kansans are "loons". But at least we're getting better and may be getting rid of one Republican Senator. Yeah, from everything I've heard the RNC is freaking out. Here's hoping Sen. Pat Roberts gets beat, this November, and we send him into retirement, so he can go fishing. Oh, wait, he's probably fishing right now, we know he's not in Congress, they're closed, until after the election.
