On the news today it was announced that congress was taking a 7 week break. What are they thinking? We have so much that needs to be done. We are now at war. America needs them and they don't seem to care. I am shocked and disappointed. The President will have to act on his own and people will call him a dictator. Congress is a big problem They will still be paid for nothing while America suffers.

Didn't they just get back from a 5 week break? If we only hired a part time Congress, can't we hire additional part timers to do some work while the others are on break?

they should all be fired. There are a lot of good people looking for work. There are people willing to give their all to this country and those are the people who should be our congressmen and women.

Ah, yes, but they probably wouldn't be so keen on licking uber rich ass, so every conceivable effort would be made to keep them out. Up to and including having them k**led - and blamed on terrorists.

Oh there's way more ways that money is being used to influence e******ns than just lobbyists. Lobbying is just business as usual. They're spending money across the board. Giving money to unions, spending money to STOP unions, giving money to colleges, cities, hospitals. etc., etc.

When the checks are delivered, they come with a message, such as; "Mark Pryor tried to stop me from giving you this money" if they're backing Tom Cotton and visa versa. It's subtle manipulation and it's tax exempt. They can't lose.

And don't forget the TV ads. I can't wait until this e******n is over so they can go back to advertising toilet tissue.

Did you know that the summer break is mandated? The Legislative Reorganization Act of 1970 requires that the House and Senate take a break “not later than July 31 of each year,” or in an odd-numbered year “that Friday in August which occurs at least thirty days before the first Monday in September (Labor Day). If you total up their "breaks" it would average 250 days each year.

Notice that I am not giving an opinion on another break, just pointing out the Act that required their last break.

How frustrating is this? Congress has no right to take another long vacation. They hardly work when they are in session with all their breaks, mid morning, lunch, mid afternoon, and on and on.

We are in deep doo doo and they are taking another vaction. What is going on in this country with our government? We are being abandoned. We have major border problems with illegal children and gang members from other countries and terrorists crossing into this country carring diseases that we have no cure for.

Obama is sending 3000 military soldiers to Africa to "help" with the Ebola crisis. For why? What are our soldiers going to do to help? They are more than likely to catch the damned disease and bring it back with them, the onse who survive it. What the hell is going on? Can someone please tell me?

The break was originally allowed due to no air conditioning in the summer way back when. It was too hot to meet and get any work done. That was before electricity was invented. There is NO reason for such a break these days in modern times.

The biggest problem is that these congressmen and women v**e themselves such rules and v**e themselves raises and retirement funding such as Nancy Pelosi who is poised to receive over $800,00 a year retirement package with all the trimmings; health care coverage and everything else you and I would be thrilled to get when we retire.

Air conditioning was added to the WH in 1930s. The mandate for summer break, as I explained earlier, came much later.
