You wouldn't know this because you are an immigrant. Do you know that German failed to be the language of the USA by one vote in the house of representatives?
Spanish has been spoken in the US longer than English?
I grew up in a bilingual neighborhood, and to this day it irritates me when people speak another language to each other like at a store. People will learn English. It just takes, as you know, a while to learn another language. So don't be so sumg about someone who doesn't know English. They may have just arrived.

It was obviously a silly question! Comprehending what one reads is important to what you are reading!

Agree, most Mexicans have no desire to learn it. I lived in Houston for over 35 years, and worked for State Farm
Insurance. Had so many Hispanics coming in to buy insurance, and all they could say was Espanyol. I knew a few words, but not enough to help them. Later we got a Hispanic man in the office, who had been here for years, he could speak English, but his wife could not, and wasn’t even interested in learning. He said when they went somewhere, he did the talking. This is the way in Texas, guys come here to work, and send money home to Mexico every payday. Course I love Texas, my husband is a native, we will probably be moving back there. My daughter is still there, and my husband’s family.

Anecdotal to my area, Asians are the ones you are most likely to find doing everything to assimilate. They retain their country of origin traditions within their homes and community groups; however, follow US traditions, etc. when out in general society.

Yes, they do, I give them credit for that.
