I suggest that if you want to live in our great country, you should learn language of our country.... English..If you want to live in America, learn our language, assimilate.. Do you think if you go to any other country, like France or Iraly, they will always get you t***slator.... Unless you're there just for vacation, you SHOULD learn the language of the country you plan to live in.....Anyone have different opinions??

Generally I would agree. Sometimes you get people who are maybe senior citizens who would never be able to learn another language. Their brains just won't understand and assimilate. But essentially, virtually everyone else should. And every time you call a company and they give you any crap about hitting one for English, that are insulting you and America.

Anecdotal to my area, Asians are the ones you are most likely to find doing everything to assimilate. They retain their country of origin traditions within their homes and community groups; however, follow US traditions, etc. when out in general society.

That is very true!!... When I came to United States I only knew few words in Eng, I had to learn it and so did my family, including my grandmother who was in her 60's at the time.... I get upset with my people who come here from Russia and refuse to learn English.. Thatvis because we have the biggest Russian immigrant community in LA.. They have their own stores, medical offices, etc.. Makes me wonder what will they do if they happen to move for some reason to a community where there aren't that many Russians.. I thank my lucky stars that our first host town, was Shreveport, Louisiana where there were only 5 Russian families, so we had to learn English to survive!!

ProgenyE’s BFF is Vietnamese. Everyone in the family is fluent in three languages, except for the mother. She speaks Vietnamese and French but very very very limited English. To give credit where due, she does not go out in, predominantly, English speaking company without a family member to assist her with communication. On a kindness note, they do not wear hard sole shoes at home. She has a pair of slip on slippers for my use if we visit.

I agree. All should try. But some seniors are beyond changing and mostly stay home and speak with the family in their native tongue.

As long you speak English too, I'm ok with that... I was talking about people who refuse to learn English...

I agree. Think of all the money we would save on signs. We have immigrants (legal) from more than 150 different countries. They must feel insulted that their language isn't represented.

Unless they’re Mexican ! They stay in their own groups and want you to enable them, which they do
