I have spent a lot of time in Brooklyn and have enjoyed it very much. Manhattan is a bit much, I'm guessing, as far as it being a great place to live. It is the congestion more than anything else. New York is one of the worlds greatest cities. If it is not for you or if you feel that it is not for you, stay where you are. You will either not like it or be overwhelmed. Either way you will probably go home anyway.

I live rurally. The thought of living in a big city/any big city, (and yes at one time, for many years I did live in a big city)...which is why rural life appeals to me.

Since the question doesn’t specify whether it is New York City or New York State in question, I can’t answer. There are plenty of people that think that NYC & NYS are synonymous. That’s a common misconception. After all, NYS stretches from Canada in the north to the Atlantic Ocean in the south. NYS has the Adirondack mountains , the Catskills Mountains, some of the Appalachian Mountains, and some of the Green and White Mountains. Thats 5 Different mountain ranges! It rubs up against two of the Great Lakes. And if that’s not enough, there’s Long Island, with a hundred miles of beach on the south shore, ending in the east at Montauk Point, which is THE Mecca of saltwater fishing for anglers from around the entire World.
On the other hand there’s NYC. With the 5 boroughs, each of which is larger than most other cities in the whole world.
Yeah, NY City is definitely a 💩 hole, with Manhattan being the heart of the 💩
But for those who only see the entire state as one big, paved over, high rise sprouting, concrete landscape, well, your loss.
Would I ever live in NYC? HELL NO!!!
But up State is actually rather nice. Much more so than the flat nothingness of Nebraska corn fields, or anyplace else like that.

I think I could live in NYC if I could carry 3 or 4 AR-15's, had as many bodyguards as Eric Adams and Nanny Pigloosli and a compound surrounded by fortified walls and sentries posted on top of the walls with machine guns.

I recommend visiting a Broadway show in the early evening of a summer evening and then looking at the spectacle of Broadway with all the lights on. It’s a sight that only you can experience there!

Some while ago I would travel to NYC during the holidays and again in the spring, always enjoyed the restaurants
Broadway shows, Museums, then after two or three weeks get gone. It's a bit overwhelming after a while.

I find it overwhelming every time I go into Manhattan. Fortunately I don’t have to spend much time there. I drop off materials and bring back bags of construction debris. Most times I’m in and out I less than half an hour.
We’ve done a few jobs near Broadway, which amazes me when I go through there. It’s like driving through the ‘Twilight Zone’!
One job we did was right around the block from Broadway, ‘Off Broadway’ shows were on that block.
During Covid and the riots, that block was closed by the police except for the job we were doing. The whole block was empty. I had my Bluetooth speaker with me and I had Genesis playing, “The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway”.
I stood in the back of my pickup truck and sang as loud as I could. So it’s true when I say I sang in an off Broadway show, even though nobody but my dog was in attendance!😇🤣😂🤣

NO! I will never live in NYC even if given a free luxury condo.

The state I live now is a democrat-Marxist state. But I live far away from the city, in a gated place no thugs could come in. The NW is overall a NO good democrat state. There are so many beautiful natural scenes, but it is also cold and always raining here. Property taxes go up 33% every year.

I am moving to Florida! Away from Democrats crooks.

You won't escape all of them. There are pockets all over the State and they are quietly making in roads because they are tired of Gov Desantis and his Anti-woke policys. Enjoy FL it is also beautiful and the people even the Dems are polite and welcoming in "True Southern Fashion".

Why it's called a Sportsman's Paradise
South Louisiana, home to an environment unlike any other, is not called the "Sportsman's Paradise" for nothing.
The state is replete with fish and wildlife as diverse as the people who cross the state line to seek them out.
Here, there is no shortage of local residents with knowledge of the area ready to take outsiders to the best in hunting and fishing that the region has to offer.
Dozens of charter-fishing businesses are available and the nearby barrier island of Grand Isle has guides who are only too happy to take visitors out for their first or 50th excursion into the wetlands or the Gulf of Mexico.

More than any other area locally, Grand Isle is known for its world-class fishing and the multitude of fishing rodeos it hosts throughout the summer months, a seasonal source of income for island residents and others. The world famous Grand Isle International Tarpon Rodeo helps to bring more than 10,000 visitors during the summer, many seeking the sometimes elusive tarpon.
But fishing isn't the only recreational offering available in the area.

From November to January, some of the state's best hunting opportunities become available. And there's plenty of waterfowl to be had -- like green-and-blue-wing teal, mallard, pintail, redhead and canvas-back ducks, geese -- as well as deer and other game.
Lafourche and Terrebonne parishes are also home to a few managed-wildlife areas.
In southern Lafourche, the Wisner Wildlife Management Area, owned by the Edward Wisner Donation Advisory Committee, encompasses about 21,000 acres and lies about 12 miles south of Leeville. It's mostly salt marsh surrounded by open water with numerous bayous and channels -- an environment ideal for boating, bird watching, crabbing, and shrimping.
Rabbits, waterfowl, rails, snipe, nutria muskrat, mink, raccoon and otter are also hunted there, according to the state Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. And it's a prime spot for speckled trout, red fish, flounder, black drum, sheepshead and croaker. For information, call 594-5494.

In neighboring Terrebonne, the Mandalay National Wildlife Refuge, operated by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, offers about 4,200 acres for fishing as well as waterfowl, hog, and deer hunting.
Located about 5 miles southwest of Houma, it's also a good place for wildlife viewing and photography. The creatures that make their home there include alligators, wading birds, ducks, and bald eagles.
Like other wildlife areas, it's only accessible by boat. For more information on fishing and hunting regulations on the federally operated wildlife refuge, visit http://southeast.fws.gpv/mandalay.

The Pointe-aux-Chenes Wildlife Management Agency, owned by the state Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, is located straddles Terrebonne and Lafourche and is about 15 miles southeast of Houma. It encompasses more than 35,000 acres available for limited recreational opportunities.
The department holds annual lottery hunts so physically-challenged hunters can hunt waterfowl and youngsters and hunt deer.
For recreational fishermen, inland saltwater species, crabs and shrimp (which may only be caught with a cast net) are available. Freshwater fish can also be caught in the northern portions.
The area is also a good spot to boating, study nature, camp and picnic. A camp ground, for tents only, is available too.
For information, call 985-594-5494.

Awesome I am planning on doing some fishing when I get my boat later this month. I want to do some reef fishing around the rigs off Grand Isle(I think) this summer after Spring semester. I served with a good friend from one of the small towns near Grand Isle and he told me all about S.LA

That don't hold water to the last florida election. Desantis anticrime method is awesome!

XXX, I was born and raised in Queens, NY. I still go in every few years to keep up with old friends, see some broadway plays, and catch a Yankee game. I hated the cold, but city living was great. NYC has world class entertainment. Some of the best shopping in the world, great museums, and restaurants. ALL IT TAKES IS MONEY!

NO ! I spent a lot of time in the city back in the 70's. My girlfriend and I became regulars in Trudy Hellers Club and a nearby Jamaican restaurant, like 5 nights a week hangin out with the goober smoochers and hitting Brasserie restaurant uptown when the clubs closed for breakfast with the theater folks. I even traded Playbill autographs with Neil Simeon and his wife Marsha Mason during intermission of his Prisoner of 2nd Avenue play. Whenever I was in the city I always carried my trusty sidearm even though it was illegal, better safe than sorry. That was all fun and games but I wouldn't set foot in NYC these days for love nor money.
