Do you believe Andrew Johnson also lost the presidency because the voters turned against him. His own party did not put him up for president but ran Horatio Seymour. Clinton termed out after his impeachment so we don't know if the public would have denied him. Both candidates in 2020 were not the cream of America. It is looking like we are going to repeat A Comedy Of Errors again this year. The end of the Empire is at hand.
I said nothing about the candidates other than to remind all that the Senate is the Judge in cases of impeachment.
