Conditions being what they are it was a natural thought to create a hideaway, a self-sufficient and defensible place suitable for up to four couples and several children.
The land must be in the foothills of a mountain range, heavily wooded, with a base of tillable fields. Access to power, natural gas and a gravel access road from a paved highway. Designed to last five t ten years of diversity.
The home would be embedded into the hill and covered with 6 to 8 feet of soil, but with an observation structure on top allowing a 360 degree view.
The main structure would be Faraday caged and have six bedrooms, six baths, living room, dining room, kitchen, library, laundry room, and a full basement, with food storage facilities and HVAC . An attached garage would hold four vehicles, plus storage for farming equipment.
Alternate power would be provided by dual gas/propane generators and a large propane tank all buried underground. Wood heating backup would be provided, as would a large gasoline tank.
A large septic field and processing is needed. And well water found and exploited, with treatment as needed, filling and maintaining to level in a large water tank.
Defending this Hideaway is problematical. Threats range from one or two intruders, to a gang of 10 to 20, or even larger. Obviously, major caliber weapons cannot be defeated. For such an assault, we need an escape tunnel to the other side of the hill. But we could stand and fight a small arms gang, and make it too costly to continue their assault.
How would you equip and defend the Hideaway?

The first rule of hideaway is…..
NEVER talk about the hideaway.
Having said that..
1- Property must have a potable water supply. A spring is ideal along with a creek that runs year round. A manual deep well hand pump is a must.
2- a plot of land with good soil and full sun 8 hours a day.
3- A small pond if possible.
4- lots of hardwood trees
5- Manual hand tools.Saws axes, drills, shovels, picks , rakes ext.
6- learn to do everything without electricity or gasoline powered equipment.
Remember everything has a lifespan plan accordingly.
FOOD…… freeze dried food are your friend.
Buy a freeze dryer and run it night and day. I have 2 of them.
Lots of bulk foods such as beans , rice …
They are easy to store in buckets with gamma lids.
Lots of seeds .. learn how to garden .
Several hundred pounds of salt and lots of bulk spices.
Commodities like bleach…it has a multitude of uses.
Lots of medical supplies. To many to list.
There are online pharmacies where you can buy 5 different types of prescription antibiotics along with a list of other prescription meds you might want.you need a online doctor consult to buy.
STAY away from population centers when purchasing your hideaway.
Another MUST.. develop relationships with like minded people. People with different skill sets are very much encouraged in you circle of friends and associates.
A efficient wood stove is worth the extra money. Not having to spend time splitting wood is a bonus.
