I have no idea of what a M16A4 is. 50 is big I know. Hollow nose?
The grenade launcher sounds like fun. What would be the exposure of a 180 degree grenade launcher?

The m-16 is a military version of the AR-15 Colt. A4 means a fourth version of improvements.
I do not know the lethal radius of M-40 Grenades offhand, but it is probably around a radius of 10 to 15 yards. I imagine FMJ rounds would be more accurate at long range.

All my hours of thinking have focused on deterrents to being detected and if detected being as secure as possible.
Back when I as giving this considerable thought I was concerned with lethal parimitar defences they did not involve shoot outs or have survivors that could plan the next attack.

There is no way you can hide the construction effort to locals, you need an all-weather access road and utilities, and you must farm, all of which tip off where you are located.

Yes. If one was creating long term sustainable habit for four families as was stated in the original post then hiding the operation would be difficult.
