If someone paid 5k for that paint they should ask for a refund! I have done custom motorcycle paint for 20 years and that is an ultra simple pinstripe flame job! Ghost flames should only be visible in bright light viewed at close distances hence the term ghost. I agree that candy colors and metal flake as well as a quality clear are very expensive nowadays, but if he payed 5k he bought a name. That paint job should not be more than 1500 to 2k max.

It was done by a well recognized name as is Simms...

This is exactly what my friend wanted with the paint design, I told him he tied Taylor's hands, that he does way more complex things if he'd have let him do what he wanted. It is way more striking in full light, and the reality is that as soon as paint gets too individualized it shuts down being something that anyone else even wants...this has a very nice universal appeal. Show me any outrageously busy yet striking paint job, and it's visually striking, but will not be something many people would pay for. Again, in the sun this thing is a head turner.

So I'll ask you FF1, what my friend paid for this is irrelevant, I paid $6500...would you pay that for this bike given it's value (even if I have to put a new motor in)? It might be a simple paint theme, but it is more complex than shows in these pics, and there are no detectable ridges that can be felt. It's a nice job done by one of the top names in the industry and a lot of guys don't like a busy bunch of crap like skulls and things, they like simplicity.

It's hard to know what my friend actually "paid" for this bike because he traded a custom truck and a fair amount of cash for it that he had put a ludicrous amount of money into, it's relative and subjective. Used value even in low mile new condition would be somewhere around and south of $20k.

And again, can't go wrong at $6500

This thing is to me is screaming for a set of black ceramic 2 into 1 pipes

You need to find someone that knows real bikes, not show bikes to look at it. A biker could likely get it running overnight. That's when a lot of them work on them. And his price would be more reasonable then any shop. And quicker. And no phony "I had to replace two muffler bearings and rotate your brakes" bullshit that bike shops love to do. Good Luck with it. The market is a little down right now but you should still double your money or better. Twenty K on the up side if you want to sell it quick to help your friend. In my humble optimistic opinion.
You need to find someone that knows real bikes, no... (show quote)

That's what I'm thinking...I met a guy last week that did a lot of custom machining for Simms and other bike manufacturers that was telling me what to do in terms of the simple fuel cleanup and filters, he gave me a phone number and said to feel free to give him a call if I needed any help.

If your "friend" paid $45k for that bike he got royally screwed. And he was totally stupid -- like your usual posts -- to sell it to you for $8k.

I agree with you Parky, ain't no bike worth $45k (unless it's gold plated)

What's arrogant about showing something that is obviously an excellent score in terms of both value and cool factor for those who like Harleys?

And if you don't have it in you to say hey, nice score, nice bike or whatever, simply keep your mouth shut? Instead you come off showing hatred and animosity about me as a person rather than a post that you are either interested in or not. For you it has nothing to do with the bike, it's about personal antagonism.

People come over to the non political topics side to get away from that, but here you are...can't do it?

My Harley is old and it doesn't leak oil. Maybe I can sell it for $45,000 then buy two new ones. LOL

There's a difference between censoring and calling out dim witted fools who can't function without resorting to personal attacks

It's not a personal attack... it's the truth. Just ask the vast majority of people on this site.

Rough crowd..woody.
Your many past half truths and flat out bullshit is what has you knocking on this door.
I told you many times to stop.....or shit like this happens..... self reflection whether you like it or not will change how your viewed..... just sayin.

Either way...... seems to be a good score at the price you paid, you seem real happy with it and in the end that's all that really matters.

Enjoy it, try not to get your ass run over, it's rough out there for bikes these days.

Have fun.

I bought it to flip, I ride seriously fast bikes, my last a ZZRR1200, 150hp, 9.9 second quarter, rev limited to 189mph, which I did a couple of times just to see what it was like, gotta admit I didn't like going that fast...I've had a Honda Hawk, Suzuki TL, Ducati 998 and 999, and an Aprilia Mille.

I will not even bother registering this, not interested in riding it except perhaps two miles down the road to Poor Reds to have a beer and try to sell it, I am not a Harley guy even though I did have an FXDX at one point...sold it, it wasn't made to ride out at the edge cornering the way I do.

I'd like to be there to see a couple real Harley riders come up from behind you on both sides of you and lift you off the bike and drop you on the pavement with your bike going merrily on it's way.
