It's pretty common, unfortunately, to use scripture as a bludgeon. I usually try to stay away from being too Churchy on the OPP because it hinders my angst and well it should. Here I can download. This issue of judgment is so often misunderstood, which taken at face value is very easy to do, that our joint discussion today hopefully helps others to better understand.

No, you don't. You preach loudly & often to libs you may encounter here, as any review of your history shows. If you don't realize that, then you are surely delusional.

I certainly do, however, regret that I forgot one of my own rules here: I got into a debate with a religious fanatic, which is like debating an ultra MAGA, and akin to trying to dig a hole in the sand with a spoon - a total waste of time.

I should have known better and saved all the keystrokes.

It’s what padre DOES in life! And you will probably sneer at this, but even if you’re not β€œinterested” in religion, he has a lot of knowledge of it’s historical side as well as it’s meaningfulness to those of us who have not studied it as thoroughly as he has.

You are not obligated to be disrespectful to him because you dislike this about him.

I think people who are going to quote the Bible, like dwp666 did with Matthew 7, to try to shove guilt trips on us should at least read the whole Bible so they know what they're talking about instead of just picking out whatever verse sounds like it might work for their agenda!

You know nothing about me. Know what they say about assumptions?

I was raised in the South in the Church of Christ, very similar to Southern Baptists. From birth to the age of 17, church three times a week, VBS in the summers, Church Camp every year. My dad was a Deacon, I was baptized at the age of 12, and my first Bible is still on my bookshelf.

And I can truthfully say that I have read it, in its entirety, more than once. That's not saying that I can quote chapter & verse 50 years later - but I have indeed read it and remember a lot (including all the contradictions it contains). I consider myself spiritual, but no longer believe in the God I was bought up on. That's π’Žπ’š choice - based on π’Žπ’š life experiences and π’Žπ’š own expanding repertoire of thought over the years. Happily, along with three of my siblings I am no longer brainwashed by my upbringing in an evangelical family, although I loved my parents dearly.

I'm "...try(ing) to shove guilt trips on us"? HaHaHa! Are you kidding? Christianity is all about guilt trips! Too many to even list, that would require a whole new thread just to start and I have no desire to do that.

That being said, I feel zero need to push my agnosticism on anyone, ever, or feel any need to preach it here on social media. I don't wear it on my sleeve any more than I would, say, wear my political preference on my head in the form of a red hat or a huge flag on my pickup.

"Padre" flaunts his religious fervor 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒏 π’Šπ’ π’‰π’Šπ’” 𝒔𝒄𝒓𝒆𝒆𝒏 π’π’‚π’Žπ’†. He just can't help himself. That's his choice.

It's always the same with you Godless apostates. You deny God and cannot abide those of us who won't compromise the faith. I do stay away from being too churchy but I attack vigorously the moral issues that affect both the church and society.

The church you were raised up in promotes both the LGBTQ perversions and abortion. It's no wonder you're so screwed up. You're now in the Church in which you truly belong. Its the common church for all you apostate Democrats. It’s the First Relevant, Modern, Contemporary Please-yourself, Have-it-your-own-way Church of you know, that thing. Instead of an hour and a half, the services are only fifteen minutes. There are no sermons. They make sure that all the music is entertaining as well as uplifting, AND you get to choose your seven favorite commandments and forget the rest.

You waste my time.

Lots of people have Bibles on their shelves for decorative purposes. It's a nice thing, isn't it, when people come in to your home and see it piously sitting there. They must think what a nice person you are...is that why it's there? And WHY is it sitting there? What use do you have for it as an Agnostic?? So you can refer to it when you need to bash people with the things that are written in it???

That's pretty sick.

And if you felt "zero" need to push your agnosticism on anyone, you need to up that number by a few, since you just pushed it! You didn't have to go into you're being Agnostic, but for some reason you needed to...why is that, I wonder? Are you trying to justify it?

It seems that padre's religious fervor....even his username!.....sets you off on some kind of tangent. What's wrong with him being passionate about his faith? A lot of us on here are. If that drives you so nuts, maybe you're on the wrong forum.

I keep that Bible because my father gave it to me. It's that simple. It's not "on display", by any means. I hide behind nothing, and my friends are all well aware of my religious views.

Your charge that I have "pushed" my agnosticism anywhere, at any time, is pure unadulterated bullshit. What that statement actually is, EmilyD, is pure π’‘π’“π’π’‹π’†π’„π’•π’Šπ’π’. I'm not going to look it up because I don't really care, yet I suspect you attacked my defense of the faith as it applies to values, morals, family, etc., and how cultural Marxist Democrats promote evil, before I responded to you. But it doesn't really matter, I'm not inclined to allow attacks on the Faith to pass without comment especially from an angry "apostate."

You say you are an Agnostic:

"...That being said, I feel zero need to push my agnosticism on anyone, ever, or feel any need to preach it here on social media. I don't wear it on my sleeve...",

And yet you quote from the Bible and talk about piety and sanctimony (!!!):

"... I call you sanctimonious because you ARE. You are correct that there is a π’‰π’–π’ˆπ’† π’…π’Šπ’‡π’‡π’†π’“π’†π’π’„π’† between piety and sanctimony and unfortunately you don't know what it is. I think you should look up what the word "hypocrite" means. And in this case, it's especially hypocritical because you are using a faith-based Christian Bible (that sits so beautifully on your shelf for all to see) while saying you have no faith!!

Why would you even mention that you are an Agnostic if you didn't want to push the fact that you ARE one??? As I said...it wasn't necessary for you to do so...but you wanted everyone to know you are not the Christian you were brought up to be anymore. I wonder why that is??

I think, knowing FROM YOUR OWN WORDS that you were "raised in the Church of Christ...went there three times a week, VBS in the summers, Church camp every year", etc...... your father who was a DEACON, no less, must be rolling in his grave knowing what things you are posting on here. And using his Bible to try to guilt-trip Christians would most likely make him cry.

You SHOULD be ashamed, but I doubt you have the ability to do that.

Yes...just like at the beginning - at the split-second moment of conception - the very first cell....right to the very end of that person's life....and even beyond, as you say.

Good point. There's no doubt that it's a human being at conception...all during its life...and then at and beyond death.

So is aborting a human being wrong, then? Since you now know that it IS a human being right from the start?
