Tom, falling inflation from the worst in fifty years means it is down to only four times as high as the fairly consistent 1.25 % in the Trump years. Under Biden in less than a year it went to over ten percent. The 6% is headed right back through the roof. You may not have noticed, but OPEC said that starting in May they are cutting WAY back on production. This will drive up our gas prices and Biden has already depleted our Strategic Reserve far into the danger zone. Instead of drilling our own oil to replenish the reserve he wants to buy it from foreign countries. THIS is who you voted for?
In one year Biden depleted our Strategic Reserve more than Carter, Reagan, Bush Sr, Clinton, Bush Jr, Obama and Trump COMBINED managed to do in 43 years.
Tom, falling inflation from the worst in fifty yea... (show quote)

How can they say 6% inflation when every thing is 50% higher? I wish I only had to pay 6% more for pipe and lumber. Or gas and food.

Creative government accounting. A 100% increase in price is called 50% inflation. A 12% increase is 6% inflation. In addition housing costs were recently taken out of the inflation equation because it makes the inflation number look higher to leave it in. Gas and food are also not included. Makes no logical sense to me. Political subterfuge.

They fall over themselves to excuse Brandon's incompetence.

You've got to remember, folks, that when the government calculates inflation, it is figured against the last month...not last quarter or last year, much less two years ago. 6% MONTHLY over a year is equivalent to a one time price increase of 101%. Over 18 months, it is equivalent to a 285% one time inflation rate.
a good way to understand it is personal cost of living. My wife and I are diabetic, and therefore our diet is set in a very structured pattern, and has been for more than a decade. I buy our groceries weekly, and I am the one who budgets and pays the bills. Ten years ago I budgeted $120/week for groceries and gasoline. Eight years ago it was STILL $120/week for groceries and gasoline. Today it is $250/week for groceries and gasoline, and most weeks I have to go over the budget.
All thanks to President Biden and Democrat economic theories and policies.

Inflation is reported monthly however the comparison of a basket of goods is compared to the same month a year earlier. Not the previous month.

Yes, but the basket of goods the government uses does not include gasoline or food items. I DID make a mistake though....I said * years ago, when I should have said two. My household food and gasoline budget remained stable from late in Obama's administration until very early in Biden's. It has more than essentially doubled since then.

Boy....I messed THAT up! I got interrupted by a granddaughter, and did not review before pressing send. Baking an Easter cake shaped like a sleeping bunny rabbit on a grassy field.
The essence is that my families budget has more than doubled for food and gasoline, after staying stable from 2015 through early 2021. And THAT is real life inflation unfiltered by government bureaucrats to look less damaging.
