Weren't they? Here they all had playgrounds where the 'kids' could go and play while we waited for it to get dark. Half-time Mom/Dad would "let" you to go to the concession stand/get everyone popcorn/sodas...you already ate all the snacks you brought from home. You could giggle/food-fight/tickle/roughhouse in the car, (if you didn't get too loud,) if it was a movie you didn't like. And best of all...the ENTIRE family had a great time together/couldn't wait to do it again.

The part about cars you can fix. I have 3 Fords at ages 91, 92, and 94. They still run and if they break they are definitely still fixable. See very few foreign cars at over 90 years old outside of museums.
The thing I think is very, very bad is the fact that when you stop for a signal 3 or 4 out of 5 cars at the stop are made in Japan. Please do not tell me that the Jap companies have factories in the US where the cars are assembled and that is beneficial to America. Those American assembled cars are sold and the profits go to Japan and the economy there. I also remember the 1950’s when 5 out of 5 cars at the stop sign were Made in America by American’s and for American’s.

I can not identify a car anymore...I might be able to tell what color it is. Buicks used to have holes in the front fenders, Pontiacs used to have an Indian on the hood and a chrome stripe going the length of the car, Plymouths had an emblem on the trunk that resembled a hat to me

My Model A's have a round FORD insignia on the front of the grill. The years 28, 29 and 30 the insignia was blue and in 31the name was chrome or stainless steel. The modern insignia on the Ford pickups are replica's of them.
I had a '39 and a '40 Plymouth's and the hood ornament was sort of a sailing ship I think. I used to get a ride home from school in a '28 Dodge sometimes. It had a 12 volt system.
Also you had a crank to crank the cars if the battery was dead. Could bump-start them too. I enjoy creating a traffic jam in the market sometimes by getting out my crank to start one of my cars. Sometimes I get carried away and tell the kids that I am out of gas and each turn of the crank will give me about one mile of travel. Five turns equals five mile or enough to get home. Jeeps in the 40', 50's and 60's came with cranks too. I think it was during the 70's that the last cars able to be cranked were built.
