18 wheelers have substantially reduced their speed on the highway; presumably, this is to save fuel.
Unfortunately, it reduces the amount of product that each truck can deliver each week, increasing freight back-logs.
With a shortage of 80,000 OTR drivers, everyone is going to be feeling this pinch, long past November.
Biden's unrelenting war on fossil fuel will only continue to exacerbate this situation.
Solutions, anyone?

I'm not quite ready to call this a "solution" but it might become a solution: trains.

Stop buying all the junk from China !
It’s Chinese junk that is creating the problems. Go out on any freeway and count how many Walmart trucks you see.
All Chinese junk tearing up our roads .
That we in turn will pay to fix with our tax money. A win win.

Don't tell me, tell your hero.
President Joe Biden said he could drop some of the tariffs imposed against Chinese imports to help control rising consumer prices in the U.S

Err.
The tariffs are only paid by you .

Wrong, I don't buy Chinese crap.

Yes... China uses trains for a large percentage of its shipping... Very effective...
But still a lot of freight moved by truck... Especially perishables...
My wife's cousin owns a couple of rigs... Gas has gone up over here as well...But not feeling inflation quite so much, yet......

Get rid of the ENTIRE current administration. And the deadwood in the bureaucracy (at least 60%) Let people who have accomplished more things than BSing to get elected all their lives be in charge.

Not much on logistics, are you? Trains have been in play for a long time now.
When was the last time you saw a railcar parked at Home Depot?
There must be lots of people in the military who have Commercial Driver Licenses.
Allow them to remain " in the military " while offering their services as CDL drivers.
Double pay for a while and alleviate driver shortage

Military Readiness?
And, when you cut that pay 50%, after "a while"?

Trains.
I'm a little more sure of it, after seeing your reply.
Train technology, and _some_ usage of trains, have been in play for a long time now. That's point in their favor. They don't have to be invented; all or most of the concepts are already established.
The train system can be expanded.
The road system (for automobiles) has been expanded countless times, so there's nothing new in the concept of expanding a transportation system. It can be done with train systems too.
Your example of "a railcar (not) parked at Home Depot" is a poor attempt to disparage the utility of trains. There's no car in my living room either, but that doesn't mean my car isn't useful. Here I am, sitting in the living room. How will I ever manage to make use of my car? Ah, somebody will invent a new kind of car and design a house such that the car can be summoned electronically and will drive into the house and forklift me into its own driver's seat. _Then_ cars will be useful. This is written as satire.

Trains. br br I'm a little more sure of it, after... (
show quote)
Trains do carry freight around the country. The are like the arteries of our supply system. But trucks are still needed to delivery to various places after unloading from the trains.

Removing Slo-Joe is the only solution I can think of.

You wanted cheap Chinese goods, just like you want cheap workers who take more than they contribute from south of the border. DEMs have always been stupid and they steal, way too much. Just watch any Black Friday when Wal-Mart opens its doors. It looks like a casting call for a Tarzan movie. Not my fault, I buy Made in America stuff. I do want a Canick pistol made in Turkey and an Uzi made in Israel, but that one is illegal in the USA. I could get rid of a lot of hogs with that one. Just think, if you have your way the black race will disappear in a few years. Yep, you're a genius.
