If he had a valid drivers license when he went to get it renewed, that should have been enough. Their own records of well over 50 years of driving should have been enough. If he was accepted for his first license, he should be accepted after that and forever.

It really pisses me off when a cashier at any store requires me at 73 to show an ID, because his company requires it.

Sometimes out of spite, I tell them to keep the beer, and I shop elsewhere.
Stupidity is hard to swallow

So you're ok with honest citizens losing their ability to vote because of some new law written to subdue the vote? Not much of a friend to Democracy are you... Plus it's not about an election won or lost it's about denying an 85 year old his opportunity to vote. What if someone told you that you couldn't vote because of some obscure new law, bet things would be different then.

Can you prove it is written to subdue a vote. More than rhetoric required!

No you're not talking about the Jan 6 riots, I'll NEVER forget those traitors...So you attacked police and the Capitol building in your HS cafeteria? I was in quite a few fights in HS but nothing like this and we always split when the cops showed up, we didn't attack them.

What about folks who were born in places or in times when state issued birth certificates weren't issued?

I believe every state has a mechanism for obtaining a birth certificate for those who were born in situations you describe.

There's ways that they will accept in certain cases like court house burning to the ground or born at home and not recorded in hospital or court records. My mom's birth certificate was re-issued as a result of her birth being recorded in the family bible. Another case I know of was a sworn affidavit.

I believe every state has in place a mechanism to keep their elections secure already, without these new laws that slows down and makes the process of voting harder. Every legal citizen should have full access to vote, period...

In this country, if your a "legal" citizen there's proof. Remember that states changed voting procedures using Covid as justification, why didn't you have a problem with those new voting laws/rules/ standards- whatever they were. They made verifying votes in a timely fashion impossible.

Those laws/rules/standards didn't make it harder for people to vote, they didn't shorten early voting and they didn't discourage mail in votes, something that has worked just fine for years.

I believe that every state has an obligation to ensure the vote is protected; that those who register to vote are, in fact, eligible to vote; and that when they vote they are correctly identified with a valid photo ID. Security is of paramount importance; and over-rides one desire for 'convenience - or flat out lazy.

Every legal citizen can vote.
