the couple who stayed with us are also therapists dealing with victims of child molestation, primarily boys in the preteen and young teen age, molested by men. so we have been doing the same type of work for years, and asking for God's guidance in the type of help we offer to the young men and boys.
The husband had been working with a young man since the boy was thirteen years old, and is still in contact with him as an adult man, of 25. As a boy, he was molested by his stepfather for about two years. Too afraid of the adult and ashamed of participating in the activity, although unwillingly, he did not report it to anyone. When the boy was thirteen, he discovered the stepfather had started molesting his ten year old younger brother. The thirteen year old was furious, for good reason, and waited until the step father was asleep, and stabbed him to death. The boy ended up in a youth facility for serious offenders, where my friend was his therapist. The boy was introduced to Jesus and God and has become a believer, has asked for Jesus to help him with his sinful ways. The man, who is now 25 is no longer incarcerated, has finished college and has a good job. He has met a wonderful woman and they want to get married. however, he believes that the sin of murder makes him unworthy of getting married and having a family. Unfortunately, while I believe I am a good Christian, I must admit that I have not spend as much time studying the bible as I should have, so I am at a loss to give my friend any suggestions as to how he should handle the situation. My believe is that the man is now a good Christian, and a good man. With help from Jesus and the people who God has sent to help him, the man has turned his life around and I believe that he would be a worthy husband and father, but I may be looking at the situation from a shallow standpoint.

What would those of you with more knowledge say to him, and what would your suggestions be, at this juncture in his life?

as far as knowledge of the Bible I'm probably low man on the totem pole here but when you repent and beg forgiveness doesn't that absolve all sin

When anyone - no matter how mean, bad or corrupt they were - no matter how many evil sins they committed - asks Jesus to forgive them of their sins - and they sincerely mean it will all of their heart - that is exactly what He will do. That means that EVERY sin - no matter how vile it was - that person committed will be forgiven and will never be remembered by God. God will give that person a "clean slat" - without any marks on it. That person must accept this without any question and, also, must forgive himself for the sins he had committed. Therefore, there should be nothing that would/could prevent him from marring.

This is an easier a question to answer then you may have first thought NPP. I'll try to keep my opinions to a minimum and give you an authoritative answer.

Revelation 21:8 says that these will not enter heaven but will be cast into the lake of fire,

"But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death."

And again in 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 we are warned,

"Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God.…"

Pretty bleak situation for mankind right?

So what does one do? NOTHING! What I mean is that, salvation is a gift from God, it can't be earned by anything that we do.

Isaiah 64:6 states, "All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags;..."

Matthew 7:21 says further that, "Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven."

So then, what is God's will for us?

In John 6:40 Christ is crystal clear, "For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.”

Again in Acts 10:43, "Of Him all the prophets bear witness that through His name everyone who believes in Him receives forgiveness of sins.".

NPP you said that "The boy was introduced to Jesus and God and has become a believer..." I then must conclude that,

"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast." Ephesians 2:8-9

What is this grace? It is the free and unmerited favor or beneficence of God.

And, that is your answer.

When you said that "he believes that the sin of murder makes him unworthy of getting married and having a family.", then he must still feel that Christ sees his sin as bigger than anyother I have mentioned above and, Christ either is not able or willing to forgive him.

All falsehoods, as you have now read and can clearly see. By his upright behavior now, one can surmise that he is indeed a new creature in Jesus Christ. He needs to stop fretting and get on with his life.

"Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come"
2 Corinthians 5:17

In Ephesians 4:30 God states, "And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were SEALED for the day of redemption."

That's the gospel of Jesus Christ, good news right?

Just explain to him that he is a SEAL and just never knew it and, we all know how fearless seals are!

People who do not read the bible have more to say about it. Jesus did not die for every sinner. All these churches who say He did are wrong. He did not die for Esau, and He did not die for Judas. If Jesus died for all the world then why is there a white throne judgment. Nobody gets saved by excepting Jesus as their Lord. What contribution did Adam make to help God create him. What contribution did Lazarus make to come out of his tomb. he was dead. What contribution did you make to be born into this world. All these examples God is telling man he is not capable of doing a work to help God do what God is doing. Read the bible and let the Holy Spirit teach you, not man.

Thanks for your answer. That is basically what we talked about, and what my friend has been telling him, glad to have it confirmed. I can only imagine the pain that young man has gone through from childhood on. This will help him be able to go on with his life. As long as he walks in the path that God has told us all to,walk in, and seeks the guidance of Jesus Christ he should be all right. From my friends description of what he is doing, that sounds like the path he is taking. I hate to think of what might have happened to him if a secular, antiChristian therapist had been the one he was assigned to. I imagine that what we would now have is another dangerous criminal out there, and there are more than enough of them already.

All have sinned and come short of the Glory of God. When God talks about 1 cor. 6. vs. 9-10 He is giving an example of the world. Paul said the things I want to do I don't do. The things I don't want to do I do. What a wretched man I am. God said if we break one commandment we are guilty of breaking them all. When God saves a person that person is saved in Spirit only. The flesh profits nothing. The wages of sin is death. We see that every day in this world. Salvation is and always was Gods work. He doesn't need mans help. Every day we are being justified by God. The flesh still dies for it's sin. You cant get that by your works of excepting Jesus as your Lord. That is a work done by you, and you are not saved by works. you are saved by God's work

God works everything for His glory. In Noah's day God destroyed a lot of people in the flood. In those days there was no law to judge anyone for sin. When Cain killed Able God did not kill Able. There was no law that said thou shalt not kill. When the law came into effect in Moses day The law killed everybody in the world. The law became the tool that God would use on judgment day. Since there was no law in Noah's day to judge anyone everyone who died went to a place of silence. Psalm 115 vs 17. In the book of Peter it reads that Jesus went and preached to the captives. Since the people in Noah's day did not hear the word, When Jesus preached to them He saved all those who were written in the Lambs Book of life before the foundation of the world. He led captives out of captivity. Jesus was both man and God. The man Jesus could preach but could not heal or raise anybody from the dead. Only the God side of Jesus could do that. Jesus came to earth to be like us. We can't heal or raise anyone from death. We will never be like Him until all God's work is done in this world. Jesus said We do not know what we will become, but we know we will be like Him, because we will see Him as He really is. God said when Adam and Eve sinned against Him, Now they are like us knowing good and evil. The man cannot handle evil because he has a sin nature. God said a leopard can't change his spots. An Ethiopian can't change his color. We can't change what we are as far as sinners go. Only God can. Judgment day is coming. God says the wages of sin is death. God says vengeance is mine. I will repay.

Yes, not enough of you good guys to go around. That young man is in good shape and, has chosen wisely for himself. I'm no professional, but not all guilt and shame is bad for us. Sometimes it reminds me of how far I have traveled or, conversely how far I have yet to go.

If this guilt or shame is producing a result that isn't conducive to or preventing somebody from being happy and balanced, well that isn't my area of expertise and I have to bow out on suggesting anything. I tried to keep it to matters of faith and as a believer and student of God's word, felt the verses of scripture were appropriate for the question.

Thanks!

We go through life trying to figure God out. No man is capable of doing that. If a man is saved he will know it. It is like going to school. You don't finish first grade and go on to tenth grade. Justification is progressive. You learn that one and one are two. When you read the bible you learn the history of it. When the Holy Spirit sees you are ready He starts to teach you the Spiritual part of what you have read. For example, The bible says it is appointed for man to die, then after that the judgment. He is not talking about the flesh. When Adam sinned against God he died spiritually. At that point all men died spiritually. God gave man a measure of faith. If a man dies not saved that faith was not enough to save him. We are saved by Jesus faith. His faith is a saving faith.

I want to thank all of you for your feed back on this subject. The GOOD NEWS is that the young man who was the subject of the discussion is getting married in September. My friend who has been his counselor is arranging to have the entire church, which is a big one, and the large social center all available for the celebration. The young man and his fiance do not know of this, they just think it will be a small wedding with a few close friends. A private collection has been taken to pay for the reception, so they don't have to cover it themselves. Other survivors from through out the country, most of whom the couple doesn't know, are coming in to celebrate with them the miracle that God has given them. Of course those of us who have been involved in some way or another throughout his recovery and passage from victim to survivor will also be there. It will be an uplifting weekend.

Again I want to thank you all for your help and input.

We are all one in Christ. God Bless

We talk about angels who help people. In the day of the old testament angels did take the form of man to bring a message from God. This is how God used His messengers who were angels. After Jesus died and started His salvation program, instead of using angels to bring a message to man, Jesus used His saved people to spread the good news. We see miracles today because we are involved in Jesus program to help His children. This is His way of letting us see Him at work through us. What a blessing.

My first response would be for him and his fiance to find a good bible believing church. This next part may require a little more searching, but look for one that has either home fellowship groups or care groups as our church calls them. Also look for a church that has a men's fellowship. Our church has a fellowship that meets and prays together on Saturday morning and then the men go out to breakfast together. Building a strong relationship with Christian men I would say would be critical. There is a Christian movie out called Courageous and is about five police officers that take a vow to each other to be the types of fathers that God wants them to be. That would also be a good movie for him to watch. Also by finding a male Christian to whom he will be accountable and the other will be accountable to him may be a tremendous help to him. That way he has a confidant that will not betray his trust but be there for him if there ever comes a time when he needs a friend to be there for him. This type of relationship has to be built on the scriptures and trust.
My first response would be for him and his fiance ... (show quote)

 You can find the movie 'Courageous" on Netflix if you have it. You can type in Faith and Spirituality for the genre and there are many good Christian movies there.
