Today's Washington Post predicts that if current trends continue the GOP will hold 53 Senate seats after the Nov. elections. This would probably mean the following:
1.More Capitol Hill gridlock than ever. Getting bills passed and signed by the president will take Herculean efforts.
2.The president much to the dismay of the far right will serve out his term. In theory, he could be impeached by the House. It takes a simple majority vote. However, he would never be convicted and removed by the senate, which would requires a 2/3 majority. The number of presidents impeached, convicted, and removed will remain at ZERO for 44.
3. If any liberal Supreme Court members are looking to retire, they better do it soon. After Nov., it will be very hard to replace them with new liberal members.
4. President Obama will have to rely even more on executive orders.
5. After the country tires of the Republican caused legislative gridlock, they will most likely sweep another Democrat into the presidency. The Democrats margin of victory, like in 2008 and 2012, will come again from young voters and minorities. They will also benefit again from the GOP's gigantic gender gap. The Democrats have far more success turning out their voters for presidential elections than they do for the mid-terms.

The Republicans could easily reclaim the presidency. However that would require genuinely responding to the needs of young voters, women, and minorities. Instead the GOP will do what it is usually good at, spin, gotcha politics, and suppression of the minority vote.
They again will try to market their "playground bully" approach to life and try to sell their usual "chicken-sh*t" rebranded as chicken salad.

You are either comatose, or refuse to free yourself of siding with ALL negroes-especially anti-American ones!

I gather your post is meant to be a dig at someone for admiring President Obama. Are you still bummed about having to live in a Democratic Republic, where the person with the most votes wins???

Brian whatever the case regarding our next elections, let's hope for balance. President Obama is obviously a good person who has accomplished a great deal and we should all be proud. although I agree with some of his policies, there are many I do not agree with. But the focus needs to be on policies, not the person and certainly not their skin color. Both sides do spins. Both sides attack the person and not the policies or ideas. I hope our young and minorities do their homework and understand the issues and are able to hear the ideas from our candidates instead of the rhetoric and spins that are presented by our mainstream media.

We live in a Republic-period.
Our Motherland is predicated on the principles of representation, not the corruption that goes along with counting the votes of the deceased,- or the disgrace of voting in more than one state- or illegals voting- or voting without picture identification!
Democracy is too corruptible, as the degenerate negro in the Oval Office proves everyday!

Brilliant post...the senate may go republican...the senate and congress are cyclical...even Reagen lost the senate in his 2nd term..
But, they will not be getting the presidency for quite some time..the demographics are too much against them..it will probably be Hillary.
I'm not to thrilled about that, and it will probably cause some heart attacks on this forum..it looks pretty obvious to me that's the way it's going...but anything can happen in the next few years
I think that for the first time in a long time, the Independents are going to be important in the next election. While it is true that the young and minorities will vote Democratic, the number of young people are dwindling. The baby boomers are well into their 50's and 60's, and Generation X is no longer "young"- they are in their 30's. Generation Y is small indeed, and they are the young voters now.
Due to changes in the economic conditions, influx of immigrants, and urbanization the Democrats still will have a strong showing. But as the Generation X children enter middle age, a certain clash will take place. The children of the baby boomers are highly independent. And vote that way.
Just a thought.

Pointing out the Democratic party's best senate hopes in the south is hardly at odds with acknowledging the larger Senatorial trends. It is normal for the party holding the White House, to have set-backs in the mid-term elections. The issue for the Democrats is to keep the damage to a minimum, but holding all the current Democratic Senate seats is just not realistic politically.
I am a realist. I am not like the Republicans who dream of impeachment and conviction, because either (a) they don't know enough math to do a senate head count or (b) they do not know what 2/3 majority means.
