Government officials have long dismissed the idea as a leftist fantasy, but the recent unrest and massive budget shortfalls from the Covid-19 crisis appear to have inspired more mainstream recognition of the central arguments behind defunding.

“To see legislators who aren’t even necessarily on the left supporting at least a significant decrease in New York police department [NYPD] funding is really very encouraging,” Julia Salazar, a New York state senator and Democratic socialist, told the Guardian on Tuesday. “It feels a little bit surreal.”

Floyd’s death on camera in Minneapolis, advocates say, was a powerful demonstration that police reform efforts of the last half-decade have failed to stop racist policing and killings. Meanwhile, the striking visuals of enormous, militarized and at times violent police forces responding to peaceful protests have led some politicians to question whether police really need this much money and firepower.

Bull crap! Too many social programs and not enough workers! Without police it would be total chaos and anarchy! The Bible tells us that good people don’t need police, bad people do!! Lots of bad people!

I say let the loony lefties try it for a month and see how well it works out.
It's just an excuse to continue their crimes without interference.

If they want to shoot, I'll take them to my gun range, (appointment only) and we can pop off a few rounds~

I think they might change their minds if they tried it.

I agree, let's do away with the police altogether and hire ANTIFA. What do you think
you'll get when you call 911 and they show up.

Has anyone heard from Sici lately? I can't seem to find him and his unique postings.

The Police UNIONS will never allow that to happen!! Their donations/dues to the DNC are much too important to lose! A few will make cuts here & there, some may be forced to make cuts due to lower tax receipts. You can be sure it will be in the areas where it is MOST VISIBLE! A year from now, we will never hear about it again!

And what do you plan to replace our government with? I asked that a couple of weeks ago with no response from you. All I have heard from you is destruction and anarchy, but no solutions. Do you have any?

As I read these comments I think of the movie High Noon. In the end it was the local Sheriff who ended the terror by the bad men. The town did nothing and the end was appropriate for those who will not stand to help themselves as was the statement by the sheriff when the threw the badge into the dust. Seems to me that is what some of you are asking for.

This will not, in anyone's mind, stand past the first time they are directly threatened with attack by criminals, and then it will be an instant call to 911:

"Policemen, come at once, and come heavily armed!"

But if they get what they want, there will be no 911.
