My opinion, for what it is worth. The state stopped using the hold, but the city continued to teach the hold and allowed it to be used....their current police handbook outlines when to employ its use....and there are no words of caution. I think it should remain as an option...it is most often used by female officers who may be significantly shorter, lighter, and less muscular than their opponent. Taking this tool away leaves only two options....tazze or shoot. Using a tazze on someone strung out on drugs or a determined suicideā¦.only makes them mad and far more dangerous. Shooting a minority....riots!!! Or, the alternative...let the criminals have the run of our nation. We must keep in mind why we hire cops...so we can live a better life without constant fear of molestation. We can not tell our officers or military to keep us safe and not provide them with the leeway and tools to do their jobs.
I do not think the officer had any bad intentions. I truly believe he thought he was doing the right and non lethal thing. I bet he thought he was keeping the suspect out of harms way, bystanders and his team safe. Further, you seem to think Floyd was a "good guy." He was passing counterfeit money. This is not a victimless crime. Tax payers are the victim, store owners are the victim, banks, our economy.....there is a reason that counterfeiting is a felony. Armed robbery, and home invasion....are not things a "good guy" would do. The officer is not the criminal, those rioting, burning down cities, beating women in wheelchairs, stealing, looting and Floyd are the criminals....and frankly, better deserve the title of stupid.

The officer is not the criminal, and would you be so generous if it was your father was handcuffed, lying on the ground with his face in the dirt gasping for breath, pleading for air. I'm predicting you cannot even fathom it. The Blackman was an automatic criminal, and even if he was, once apprehended why was he not brought at least to his knees, or put in the car in custody? Do you really think your opinion would be so charitable if the officer who did that to your father was black? I don thin so.
