Exports of "critical materials" should be allowed only by "special permit", when granted by DHS.

But doesn't that work both ways?

Love thy neighbor and you love thyself! Do onto others and you would have them do onto you. We are all in this together. Trite sayings until the s**t hits the wall, and then the true nature of people come out.
I support much of what President Trump tries to accomplish, but as I pointed out in a previous post, if we did not spend trillions of dollars fighting phantom enemies in oversea conflicts, and the bloated military industrial complex, then maybe, just maybe, we would have directed more of our limited resources to a more productive and humanitarian purposes, and we would be able to help our fellow man.

Every man for himself, huh. What if the positions were reversed, would you feel any differently? Christian charity at it finest.

Seems just last week there were folk on the forum complaining that China had blocked the export of essential parts for ventilators
Yep.. Human nature....
I understand that 3M gets some of its raw materials from Canada.... Hope those aren't blocked

I've been saying that for years....
The ME was a huge waste of money, lives, and the USs good reputation... For what?
And I think there are still plenty of folk in the US ready to help their fellow man.... People are just reacting to quickly

this problem with masks etc, bothers me and marking 3M even more so..
3M is a large business, operates in over 30 countries, has 3 plants for masks etc in Canada.. so trump expects product made in Canada to not be sold to Canada??
How dumb is he... can he be any dumber?
also we have the tariff to consider..
Putting the tariff on masks and such drove the Mfg to drop markets in the US and create new outlets with other nations.. Now the orange thing offered to "forgive" the tariff for the extent of the virus outbreak..
How much business sense does it take to figure the value of a 90 day relief from tariffs will not be sufficient to redirect any company to move it marketing route from the countries now served to the old failed country only to have the very factor that derailed the market in the first place be reinstated in a matter of weeks?
3M has every right to market its good made in Canada to Canada, in fact to any market they wish. the US war law has no effect on business in other countries.. US owned or not..
In the past, under more normal circumstances, Canada has worked with American policy on these matters, but with the name calling and lies toward Canada the low status the world has placed on our current administration.. do not look for any extended effort from Canada.

Our government exists to "Serve and Protect" U.S., first and foremost.
The rest of the world comes in a close second, but still second to myself and my family!
It is not an American "right" to have continued to buy oil from Saudi Arabia when we had the knowledge that it was Saudi terrorists who flew the planes into the towers. In hindsight, it was wrong to have supported Stahlin during WWII. In other words, history shows that you cannot have peace with an "enemy who is hellbent on destroying you."

Hope you're as understanding when nations start cutting off supplies to the US

when you dig into this story you will find that the 3M company made a commitment to the US to furnish 35 million masks for use by US health care providers. what the company did was sell those masks to other countries. Naturally this upset the POTUS and he told the company to make good on their promise to us and step up production. the company said they could not step up production so the president invoked the Defense Production Act which the company understood to mean no export of any masks to other countries. Canada and Mexico are the biggest customers they have, so they are trying to fight their battle in the news using public opinion to force the government to make another "concession" like the liability protection given them earlier. bottom-line this is a food fight between the POTUS and 3m. I expect shipments to other nations will be honored and 3m will step up to the plate, hire more workers, and produce an abundance of masks.

We have been cut off before....we adjusted our belts and cut back until we could produce for ourselves. we are a resilient people

Every nations responsibility should properly be to its OWN people first.

I hope that is true.... There is a time for self dependence and a time for unity...
I understand that there are a number of 3M factories in Canada, employing Canadians, and using resources produced in Canada...
This is a time that will effect future relations for a generation to come...
Decisions should not be hastily made...
Liked your last post... I agree that that would be the best solution...
