So their response is to raise public awareness about social distancing and protecting the vulnerable, elderly and sick - that the prognosis for the elderly will be MOST affected by the measures their family and circle of friends take to protect them. People are encouraged to tough out their bout with the virus by staying at home when sick and taking precautions not to infect others. By damping down the Corvid-19 outbreak until the flu season has passed, and reserving hospital beds and critical care units for just those critically ill, they hope to prevent the NHS from being overwhelmed.

Anytime a health service is overwhelmed, the death rate will obviously climb. That is the pattern we saw in China, and are seeing in Iran and Italy.

President Trump is right to close the border with continental Europe. I would only fault him for not also closing the the Southern Border completely too.
