The only reliable numbers available are from South Korea - everyone else is either overwhelmed or lying. The case death rate published by South Korea is 0.8%. That is about 4 times higher than the published case death rate for the annual flu.

However, what makes Covid-19 different from the annual flu - and it will be different for this first infection season only - is the term ‘novel’.

The human population has a ‘herd immunity’ to the annual flu, but that does not yet exist for this new pandemic. Every time Covid-19 sweeps through the population, the level of herd immunity will grow. In due course, this disease will settle down into just another winter disease like the common cold (which is also a corona virus strain), or the flu.

This is a pandemic - that means it is endemic now in many countries. It is likely impossible to put this genie back into the bottle. Herd immunity is the only effective firewall, at least until an effective vaccine is available.

Britain is taking a novel approach to this novel virus by accepting that it will sweep through the population, and start that process of developing herd immunity. So their response is to raise public awareness about social distancing and protecting the vulnerable, elderly and sick - that the prognosis for the elderly will be MOST affected by the measures their family and circle of friends take to protect them. People are encouraged to tough out their bout with the virus by staying at home when sick and taking precautions not to infect others. By damping down the Corvid-19 outbreak until the flu season has passed, and reserving hospital beds and critical care units for just those critically ill, they hope to prevent the NHS from being overwhelmed.

Anytime a health service is overwhelmed, the death rate will obviously climb. That is the pattern we saw in China, and are seeing in Iran and Italy.

President Trump is right to close the border with continental Europe. I would only fault him for not also closing the the Southern Border completely too.

Nancy won’t allow him to close the southern border. That’s where her next constituents will originate and that is all she cares about...certainly not American born patriots.

Of course the virus per se is not trump's fault although he slowed the response to it.
On the other hand, in spite of saying that we all need to work together as Americans, Trump, as usual, blames others for the current situation:

But you may be just having fun.. people do that.. ask Byron..

Actually I have to admit an error. I did not believe Trump's expert who said the Corona Virus is ten times as deadly as a common Flu. It turns out with the limited data I pieced together it seems to be. I looked up the latest DATA from S. Korea. I have no reason to think they lied.

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/south-korea/ gives total cases in S.Korea at 7979 and a death count of 71. Then I went to the CDC website and looked up the stats for 2018-19 Flu season in the US.

https://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/burden/2018-2019.html gives total US cases as 35.5 million and 34,200 deaths.

71/7979 is.0089 . 34,200/35.5 million is .00096 .

When I am wrong I admit it. The S. Korean DATA is a much smaller sample and therefore it may have inaccuracies, but these are the best numbers I can find to compare. Again I did not believe Corona was 10 times deadlier than the common flu, but comparing S. Korea's Corona this season to last year's US Flu season, it is more than ten times deadlier.

So, England is using commonsense. How novel! While in the USA, our media constantly ups the scare factor and panicked citizens are raiding grocery stores as if they are moving into a bunker not to emerge for months. Human beings are often crazy, berserk.

sorry bub , I don't think that President Trump , has blamed any one for any thing concerning this virus . although I would not doubt it , for that the people you listen to for your "news " tell you that he has . but then they have LIED to the entire nation concerning the "Russian Collusion " and the "Ukrainian fraud " to try and impeach him . so why quit now . just LIE some more . just create one fairy tale after another to do a character assassination . to try an convince all of you dem. followers that he is a danger to our nation . which I think is pretty far fetched . seeing how many people are back to work and this country of ours is thriving . until this virus hit . we have taken a hit from it BUT we will come back from it and be standing tall again in time .

He's right. They failed to learn from H1N1. Now they say Trump caused the panic. It is beyond stupid. He tried to take steps like halting travel from China and encouraged normalcy. He DID NOT cause the panic.
