In High school I wonder why they pushed college on us so hard instead of trades?🤔

They didn't tell me union plumbers can make $1,600 a week with NO OT and NO DEGREE.. or that truck drivers can make 6 bands if they buy their own truck with NO Degree? Or that traveling welders can make 100,000 a year with NO Degree.🤔

For some reason they made it seem like college was the only way to be successful. I swear... it's as if the guidance counselors training was to redirect our thinking and to fixate our minds and success in life based off the results we get from the college we choose. Notice they never mentioned us starting a business or even taught us how to in school? They always made sure they pushed the collegiate agenda and never even mentioned an outside option like trade school.

Our school system is not designed to make bosses. It's designed to make slaves. Otherwise they would train us to be self employed and self sufficient. They do not. Teach your children that they are more than just a piece of paper. Their minds can expand pass the average status quo and that they have skills that can not be put on paper. There are great engineers right now managing a restaurant because they listened to their guidance counselor instead of their heart.

There are so many trades looking for skilled technicians that pay big bucks. Parents and their children need to consider the alternatives to getting a very expensive college degree versus pursuing trade school. I agree with your post 100%

I have two kids. One went to a trade school and one to college. Guess who makes the most money?

Yes.
I even wanted to take shop in high school.
I couldn't because I was a girl.

When I was in high school, the girls were required to take shop for one quarter and the boys had to take one quarter of home economics so we were taught the basics of cooking sewing and other domestic chores. That's so we could survive if we chose not to get married!

Some life classes not a bad idea. Teach people about how having kids, then child support for 18 years when hormones overcome common sense.
Then the single mom predators seeking the next guy to get 18 years of support as a career option....
Funny my wife is the one that talks hard about women predators and the stupid guys being unprotected.
Teach our 17 through 21 year olds how a one time bad decision can change the course of life.

That's great and I was upset that they wouldn't let me.

Me too and those most basic of basics stay with us through life.

Sometimes that collage education isn't worth the paper it's written on.

I forgot the exact percentage, but it was over 80% of college grads end up in a career having zero to do with their degree.

That's generally true in the arts, but not so much in computer technology, engineering, medicine, and other science-based disciplines. The problem is that not many have the mathematical or science-based backgrounds to succeed in those disciplines.

Yeah, but you won't be credible opening up a fireworks store if you have more than three fingers.

You must be in the horse business. We shipped Fox Trotters to every state over a period of 25 years. Horses were good to us.

As a former public school superintendent, your comments are exactly correct and well stated. Tech schools and trade schools are outstanding opportunities for 80% of most graduating seniors. Opportunities are unlimited.

I have to agree I've stated before the ones who go to trade school don't have a problem finding a job. My son's girlfriend has a degree in social work unfortunately she made more money had better hours at sam club as a manager. She let that job go to become a social worker she now sits at home with no job because she let go verbally at work too many cases on her desk on call at nights and weekends tried to call a supervisor to give a report on a problem no one answered she turned in the report told her supervisor about it on Mon the next week she was fired for not following protocol she feels guilty about not using her degree who cares work where you can making a living
