So fix it

I’d love to. So far no response to my ideas from congressional reps I have written to. Social Security is the definition of a Ponzi Scheme. I don’t plan on being around in 2034 anyway and if I am my annuity will pay out more per year than S.S anyway.

OK hippy, the cookie jar was robbed decades ago by the Duopoly n' filled with IOU's after Reagan shored it up
and fixed it for everyone born before 1964

Meanwhile my ID was stolen and my CPA determined that it was bein used by a Honduran and that was 25 years
ago...So bein disabled and tired of all the nonsense, I had my CPA legally opt me out of Socialist Security and my Attorney found a sympathetic Fed Judge Who cut the disability noose from my neck...So Now what?

Both neolib marxist's and neocon lovin trotsky's have been caught taking advantage of hard workin honest TaxPayin citizens...and now I'm Not Obligated to any of y'all. Even though I received letters in the mail for years
sayin everything is Now paid in full, I've moved on and created my own retirement investments so as not to be a burden to the system I once believed in

So it needs to be shored up, not gutted and turned over to the private investment market.

There are solutions to making sure it stays solvent, and turning it's asset funds over to wallstreet isn't one of them. Social security is funded by workers for worker retirement. I'm in favor of unburdening it's funds by using it for immigrants and people who have not directly contributed.

If it's going under in twenty or thirty years so be it, in the meantime take steps to make sure it doesn't go under, not turn it over to privatization.

Your one comment confuses me a lot. I cannot believe you said this, and I can only think you merely chose a poor way of expressing your self. " I'm in favor of unburdening it's funds by using it for immigrants and people who have not directly contributed. " Are you saying that you wish to give away SS to illegals or not ?

Your other comment I only wish to obliterate. " If it's going under in twenty or thirty years so be it, in the meantime take steps to make sure it doesn't go under, not turn it over to privatization.["

So you only care that it lasts for you. Screw everyone behind you ????????????????

Are you sure about that? The government has been using social security funds to pay for programs that have no relationship to their intended purpose of being a safety net for retirees. They are used for immigration issues that are people who have never contributed to the system, and yes, the government has raided it's funds for non related things. Including if I'm not mistaken, loans to bridge funding gaps.

I have a problem with a dime going to an immigrant that is assistance for kids born here by illegals or whatever. This is a use by people who never contributed to the system as workers. I know an english woman who overstayed her visa, and got pregnant to stay. She gets $1800 a month for the kid she had that was born here. I don't care where it comes from or what kind of welfare it's called it shouldn't be coming from social security funds.

Shocker, good post.
Should only go to US citizen that have contributed to SS.
Why anyone that believes we should care for the babies of the world is insane.

You should look at alternatives before you continue to support the scam SSA accounts.

Most people and employers put in about 16% of their income to get on average, a check at retirement
for about the average of 1400 dollars.

Some communities used to get freedom from the gov't program and it allowed the same payroll charges to the gov't to go into real investments.

Those laws were killed in about 1983 if I remember correctly. Those folks retired with $3300 checks roughly.

Which would you like to have? A named account invested in real investments or an arbitrary budgeted expense paid out of federal budget annually. Which also will run out of funds, by estimates of about 2028 or so. Changes frequently.

Google won't allow a search to show the alternatives that used to exist.

I wish a few more of us would stop using the Barak Obama method of expression. Clarity, not murkiness should be the rule on OPP.

Actually if you are receiving a W-2 6.2% of your Social Security comes out of your check and your employer match's that amount for a total of 12.4%. If you're self employed as I am you get to pay the entire freight. I must pay 15.3 percent in Social Security and Medicare taxes on my first $45,200 in self- employment earnings, and 2.9 percent in Medicare tax on the remaining $300 in net earnings. For employers and employees, the Medicare payroll tax rate is a matching 1.45 percent on all earnings bringing the total Social Security and Medicare payroll withholding rate for employers and employees to 7.65 percent.

This is not their money to spend, it is the taxpayer's monies put in trust, but the party of corporate, the GOP, have been salivating for that money since Bush. Greedy F'ers

Trump is digging us another grave, they're getting desperate on where to find money, and not FOR SS. You now Trump is gonna want to start a war, we're still deep in debt from the last one, so how will the next one gonna be paid, they gonna come for the silver and gold in our teeth?

They're not talking about 'gutting' social security lonepup…. Read more than one article. Social Security is going to start paying out more than it takes in in 2032. If the gov is really interested in saving Social Security than its time to stop the fraud and waste in government and put some of that money into Social Security.

Don't think that will ever happen.

Not true at all.No party wants to be the party to destroy S.S.. That's a ticket to political defeat. All politicians want to stay in power. By law the trust fund cannot go into the red. No politician will put his name to the list of those that want to reduce your Social Security. It's simple math. You are smart enough to figure it out. The first S.S. taxes were collected in 1937. The average life span in 1940 was 62. The life span now is around 80. In the 50's there was over 8 workers putting into the system for every 1 taking out. It is now under 3 workers per retiree receiving. There's your problem. It's a huge Ponzi scheme.
I know I said I wouldn't converse with you any more but that was childish of me. This seems like a subject there shouldn't be much argument about except on differing ideas on how to fix it.
