Too stupid to let pass. You are truly one of the dumbest people on OPP. Of course discussions about social Security needed to be private so outside influences don't taint the possible solutions. Before you say social Security's in trouble because the government stole the funds let me tell you that's BS. It's math. Probably not simple enough for you but that's what it is. If changes are not made to S.S. in 2034 S.S. will only be able to pay out around 77% of earned benefits.
I know this is just damn near impossible for you, but try to use some common sense. What politician in their right mind wants to gut Social Security? That's a death nail for any politician. Presently the cut off limit for paying S.S taxes is $132,900 and the maximum full retirement age (based on the age you are born) is 67. If they are going to change anything these will be it. Raise the earnings amount taxed and the retirement age they may resort to means testing but I doubt it. Social Sec. Right now it's less than 3 workers putting in to number of people taking out. In 1955 there was over 8 workers per retiree and the worker to retiree ratio is still dropping. Catch the meaning here? I didn't think so.

So it needs to be shored up, not gutted and turned over to the private investment market.

There are solutions to making sure it stays solvent, and turning it's asset funds over to wallstreet isn't one of them. Social security is funded by workers for worker retirement. I'm in favor of unburdening it's funds by using it for immigrants and people who have not directly contributed.

If it's going under in twenty or thirty years so be it, in the meantime take steps to make sure it doesn't go under, not turn it over to privatization.

The GOP has been openly suggesting and flying ideas as well as undermining the SS system. Social security administration has been under attack in terms of defunding for some time. Offices are under staffed.

It's as much a lie as the GOP trying to undo the ACA

Are you sure about that? The government has been using social security funds to pay for programs that have no relationship to their intended purpose of being a safety net for retirees. They are used for immigration issues that are people who have never contributed to the system, and yes, the government has raided it's funds for non related things. Including if I'm not mistaken, loans to bridge funding gaps.

I have a problem with a dime going to an immigrant that is assistance for kids born here by i******s or wh**ever. This is a use by people who never contributed to the system as workers. I know an english woman who overstayed her visa, and got pregnant to stay. She gets $1800 a month for the kid she had that was born here. I don't care where it comes from or what kind of welfare it's called it shouldn't be coming from social security funds.

They see the debt they owe the trust fund, i.e. the American people, and they go nuts. The dufus Treasury secretary, has even suggested selling 100 year bonds to the trust fund. That way, everyone would be dead before having to buy those bonds back......................which is what they mean by "reform".

Hint: an entitlement is something folks believe they are owed, for which they've not paid for themselves - like members of Congress retirement payments. Stuff people HAVE paid for is not an entitlement......................it's a debt, owed by whomever borrowed the money the people paid in.

LOL. Either you didn’t read the article or certainly didn’t understand it. I am a certified Federal National Social Security Advisor. It would be fraudulent to state this if I wasn’t. I believe I know more about S. S. then most and certainly you. You don’t even have a tack. Your box is empty.

Everyday for weeks I’ve gotten a form to fill out to send to Congress , and everyday without fail they want a donation from my social security. They took that money out of my paycheck for 50 years and invested it, then used it for welfare people who never worked and to balance the federal budget. I’ve donated all I plan to donate. One of them reported that Marco Rubio started this bill. What difference would it make to a second generation American? At the same time all these i******s are being spread out around the country to draw welfare and health benefits from our tax dollars. If you want a break in this country, go out and come back in, illegally.
