In order to understand how utterly un-American Rep. Ilhan Omar is, it is worth taking a look at the atrocious things she has said and done in Congress[1] .

Consider, for example, her remarks when introducing drug price control legislation[2] :

“I believe that healthcare is a basic human right,” Rep. Omar said. “And the right to healthcare extends to being able to access prescription drugs at an affordable price. Americans pay the highest prices to access drugs in the world – including three times the price of drugs in Great Britain alone. Instead of taking donations from the pharmaceutical industry, we need to hold them accountable for taking advantage of the American people.

“It is a mark of shame that in the wealthiest country in the world people are dying because they can’t afford lifesaving medicine.

Or when the House passed a Freedom Of Religion Act[3] :

“We are at a turning point in our history. We must decide whether we stand for liberty and equality or oppression and bigotry,” said Rep. Ilhan Omar. “The Muslim ban is one of this Administration’s most potent symbols of hate—and it is having devastating consequences on families fleeing hardship. As someone who came to the U.S. from one of the banned countries, I am proud to join my colleagues in introducing legislation to end this hateful ban and ensure that we live up to the ideals of our nation.”

Or when she introduced legislation to backpay the childcare costs of workers affected by Trump’s shutdown[4] :

“What this bill does is simple: it makes sure that the people who are suffering because of the President’s manufactured crisis are at the very least able to cover their childcare expenses,” Rep. Omar said. “This bill is personal for me. I am a working parent with three beautiful children and I know firsthand the costs associated with child care.”

Or when she opposed a funding increase for ICE[5] :

“In this country, our diversity is our greatest strength. Immigrants fuel our nation’s economy, enrich our nation’s culture, and enhance our social fabric. Quite simply, we are a better nation because of our immigrants.

“And yet, this Administration continues to threaten the dignity and humanity of our immigrant population. The Department of Homeland Security has separated thousands of children from their parents, denied asylum to those fleeing danger, and used taxpayers dollars as a slush fund to incite terror in immigrant communities. The efficacy of a government agency must be determined by assessing ‘outcomes.’ By any reasonable measure, Donald Trump’s weaponization of ICE and CBP has been a failure. The Department of Homeland Security does not deserve an increase in funding, and that is why we intend to vote no on this funding package.

Or when the House voted to condemn hate of all kinds[6] :

“We are tremendously proud to be part of a body that has put forth a condemnation of all forms of bigotry including anti-Semitism, racism, and white supremacy. At a time when extremism is on the rise, we must explicitly denounce religious intolerance of all kinds and acknowledge the pain felt by all communities. Our nation is having a difficult conversation and we believe this is great progress.”

Or upon the House passing HR1[7] :

“Until we are able to create a fair election system and ensure everyone’s right to participate in our democracy, we will continue to face barriers to the transformative change we seek,” Rep. Omar said “With H.R. 1, House Democrats have passed a once-in-a-generation reform package to restore the promise of our democracy and repair our institutions. I am particularly proud that the final bill includes my legislation to strengthen enforcement of foreign lobbying and my amendment to crack down on lobbyists who represent human rights abusers.”

“H.R. 1 is a bold declaration to the American people that the Democratic majority gets it – we want to build a democracy that actually works for the people, because when we do, government will become more responsive to the needs of everyday Americans. If we give regular Americans a seat at the table and the tools to be heard.”

We could go on, but I’m nauseated. I certainly hope you are. We have learned that Rep Omar believes:

America is the wealthiest country in the world
America stands for liberty and equality
Children are beautiful and worth providing for
America is a better nation because of her immigrants
Government departments which fail to meet their targets should not receive increased funding
Anti-Semitism, racism and white supremacy are unacceptable
American democracy must work for everyday Americans
How rude! How un-American!

“But her tweets! But ‘the Benjamins’! But she said —“

Ah ah ah ah ah.

For the past three years the entire conservative world has been telling me that Trump is a perfectly fine President, just ignore his tweets.

Well — let the record show that Rep Omar is a perfectly fine progressive Democratic member of the House of Representatives if you ignore her tweets, too.

It’s not as if Trump can claim he cares about her tweets, either, seeing as he is fabricating lies about her in his rallies[8] .

So what could it be about Rep Omar that scares Trump and his fanbase? Hmm

Must be the … earrings. Yeah. Those earrings! If I were American, I’d be scared of those long arcs of justice curving towards me too!

I have to admit Bernie that I do not know what things are being done down in the 5th district.

I think that would be pretty good. the area includes the U of MN, the riverside parks, the SW mpls affluent neighborhood.. and what used to be tipi town. which was targeted for renewable some time ago..

As for Omar, she has a great deal of support in all groups, from Jewish to students and of course Somali. actually, her strongest opposition was from another Somali..

Can trump get her dumped? I very much doubt it, but a challenge could come out.

but it would be another Democrat I am sure..

I'm surprised by this.

I have read her statements about Israel and Jews. In context, they may be debatable as to matters of policy, but she isn't expressing anything that others haven't expressed. Including some Israelis.

While I support the American relationship with Israel, I don't think it's anti-Semitic to question Israeli policies anymore than questioning our own policies is anti-American. Her views on the American and Israeli policies may be out of the mainstream, but they are not outside the realm of discussion.

The Trump administration's feud with 'the Squad' is political theater. The themes of who's a racist, or fascist, or whatever is the dust-up du jour, are subordinate to what I see as a larger message:

The Republicans are seeing the future of the US and are freaking out. The Squad is everything that scares them. They are young, diverse, and opinionated. There are also more where they came from, so sending them back won't work....it's their constituents who will decide that. Whether it's these particular Representatives that survive or not, I suspect the membership of the squad will keep growing. It's the future peeking into the here and now and it scares the bejesus out of some folks.

Permanent brain freeze,

The truth? I see you chopped the truth off part of my quote. What are you trying to hide? You don't have a clue what's going on behind the scenes in Omar's world. She is evil.

Sorry about the chop, but that was not my doing.. OPP did it..

As for anti-semitic statements, Omar was critical of Israeli policy, not at all anti Semitic.

If you would read legitimate news, you could have a more informed base for your opinions..

If you’re surprised by me posting such a pic, I appreciate that. It is immature, but in my experience it is fruitless to attempt a debate/discussion with the OP. I appreciate your position, but I disagree with you in respect to her comments being somewhat limited to policy. Comments such as “Israel has hypnotized the world” - is almost a direct quote from Protocols of the Elders of Zion, (1903) the foundational text of modern anti-Semitism. Another, “It’s all about the Benjamins baby”- a loose quote of “Money is the only means [the Jew] knows by which to gain position” - The International Jew, (1920) the classic text of American anti-Semitism, published and distributed by industrialist and rabid anti-Semite Henry Ford. Another, “I want to talk about the political influence in this country that says it’s ok to push for allegiance to a foreign country” - not that dissimilar to the quote in The White Man’s Bible, (1981) “The Jew... is frantically, eternally loyal to the Jewish race and since 1948, to Israel”. Published by white nationalist, Ben Klassen, this book is considered a staple of post-war American anti-Semitism.

We can agree to disagree, but I think these quotes should be a concern for all Americans, to include scaring the bejesus out of them.

Fair points as always my friend.

Truthfully, Frosty, I don't really care whether she stays on or not and I would think Trump feels the same. I believe that she is proving to be a great benefit to Trump's re-election campaign. The bump in his poll numbers following his comments about "the squad" seem to bear that out. I really don't think the remarks of those 4 women meet with the approval of very many patriotic Americans. I sure don't see why they would. I guess time will tell. MAGA.

A chance to do what? To turn it into a little Somalia? I have never seen a more anti-American person than she is. Tlaib is the same thing from Michigan. You support this kind of stuff? Or are you just turning a blind eye to what is going in this Country?
