Fact: The American military was not defeated in Vietnam. The American military did not lose a battle of any consequence. From a military standpoint, it was almost an unprecedented performance. General Westmoreland quoting Douglas Pike (a professor at the University of California, Berkeley),
a major military defeat for the VC and NVA.Not Just Westmoreland

Thanks for posting that. I was in college at the time of the Viet Nam War and my step-father (a registered nurse in the air force) served 2 tours over there. I had a good friend who died there.

Yup..all that was true.. my ex did two tours over there..army ranger..the media has always been slanted...and inaccurate probably from about then to current!.. thanks for the link.. it just verified what I already knew...
I can usually tell a fake vet from a real one.. real ones really don't like to talk about their time in country, and that goes for most vets I know..Also, there may have been "Nam era vets" They were in the military but not in country..My hubby was a "nam era vet".. Navy 1972-75 medical discharge & even he didn't like to talk about it.. the only thing he told me is that while getting off an airplane in California from Chicago, he was in uniform and got spit on...that really hurt him & pissed him off at the same time.. he volunteered...
The ones that can't shut up about it.. are usually the fake ones!..
I said this in another thread.. I used to volunteer for the VFW in Santa Cruz, Ca...during holidays..and just day to day talkin with them.. some would open up and tell me some not so much...There were wwII, Korea, & Vietnam.. at that time.. about 1977

I echo that sentiment, iliamna
I was wounded in action during the Tet. I do like to talk about the great medical service I received from the medic who saved my life and the surgeon who saved my leg.

I agree, 506
Corpsmen/medics/nurses are far too often the unsung heroes of Viet Nam.
I do like to talk about Viet Nam to those who called us "baby killers" with the intent to remind them that the real "baby killers" are themselves, the Pro-choicers. And, they are as much the enemy to America as were the NVA and VC to South Viet Nam.
