One way to speed this up would be for Trump to pose the question to the nation and ask people to voice their opinion. I large numbers say yes to term limits then Trump should challenge Congress to heed the will of the people that they supposedly represent.

More than Congress we need term limits for the Federal Judiciary.

Congress will never go for it. If the people want term limits then all they have to do is not reelect anyone after they have served 12 years. That makes it an equal amount of time for both houses of Congress. Otherwise it would probably need a constitutional amendment by the states to bypass Congress.

Congress aren't the people to vote on that issue. It will be the states and I believe it has to be at least 38 states to approve of an amendment.

Found this little gem while researching term limits.
In May 1995, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled 5–4 in U.S. Term Limits, Inc. v. Thornton, 514 U.S. 779 (1995), that states cannot impose term limits upon their federal Representatives or Senators. In the 1994 elections, part of the Republican platform included legislation for term limits in Congress.

Seems to me they said the Constitution must be changed by Constitutional amendment.

Yes, there should be. Everyone in Congress should do two terms. One in Congress and one in prison. And that includes most of the members of both parties.

Whatever happened to citizen Representatives instead of life-long politicians. Even with term limits, they are serial political office campaigners. CA has them term-out of the legislature, but they keep running for other positions. An example of the Peter Principle, incompetence is rewarded, like Bernie; they keep running for some or other political position and screw things up, then move on to their next disaster.

We have to get rid of the scum that comprise the Deep State at the same time. Otherwise any newly elected members of Congress will just become pawns of the entrenched bureaucrat's of the Deep State.

I think 6.

Any longer than that, they begin to lose touch with the realities of those they are there to represent.

Many lose touch with reality the minute they enter the swamp.

This is true.

Today's Democrats, however, have elected some new people to Congress who didn't even wait to enter the swamp, they actually ran on a lack of touch with reality and won.

Says a lot, I guess, about today's Democrats.

I think 12. That gives them two terms in the Senate or six terms in the House. That is enough. But whatever limit is decided upon, it needs to be done. They need to be booted out and forced to live with the laws they passed while they were in office--no exceptions or exemptions.

Being a U.S. Congressman was never supposed to be a lifelong career with special privileges, where they somehow amass a fortune and then retire with a sweet benefits package …. compliments of the U.S. taxpayer.
I think 12. That gives them two terms in the Sena... (show quote)

Absolutely agree. The era of multiple decades spent as a Congressman (or woman) amassing huge fortunes from lobbyists and Big Business cronies needs to be over.

Does anyone know what the average wealth is of a Congressperson? Mean, Median, and Mode? How much wealth do they amass while in office? Plus the lifetime pensions and healthcare. No wonder AOC wanted to get elected.
