Here is a link to an article by the council on foreign relations that spells it out pretty clearly, as I said each persons situation is theirs individually and range from exploitation by criminal gangs from which a local government can not protect them to fleeing due to persecution for political views and activities.

The Jews were prevented from leaving. They were imprisoned even tho they were native born.
We don't want illegal immigrants to come and they stream like roaches across our border. They have no native born rights.They are becoming citizens faster than they can be vetted.
The Jews would have given their right arms to have the freedom to leave. The illegal immigrants soaking up our tax dollars want more more more..
The Jews tried to sell their valuables to smuggle themselves out. The current swarms of "voluntary exiles" are importing poverty hand over fist. They "want jobs" . well who doesn't?
next they'll be complaining they can "only" get minimum wage jobs without skilled labor work experience no papers or worse they'll all work under the table.
California is going broke with governmental lunacy. Insurance and rights better than ppl living in tents downtown with birth certificates and k thru twelve eddycations and viable BG checks.
anyone in California govt except Devin Nunes is crazy.
