A being is something that knows it exists or, minimally, can respond to language.

A good bet based on what? Again, you are playing with a fallacy called bandwagoning or "argumentum ad populum." Since you are someone who has a Masters Degree in English accomplished with a 3.57 GPA you should understand logical fallacies and what they do to our arguments. There is certainly enough historical documentation to believe that Christ existed but there is nothing to document his divinity, rising from the dead, or being the son of god. What we have are 2 billion people who have faith the aforementioned is true but nothing else. Faith does not constitute the truth but hope and nothing more.

Here we go again with the fallacy meme. That is all you have as a platform for your antagonism. You've repeated this argument so many times now that it has lost any credibility it may once have had.

We have 2.2 billion Christians now alive on earth and we have nearly 2000 years of Christian history.
We also have an enormous body of research into the life of Jesus that refute your highly prejudicial denials of all things spiritual.

How can the truth lose credibility? The argument you are making is that the more people who believe something true the more likely it is. Well, that's nonsense because if a truth is believed by only one person and disbelieved by 2.2 billion that truth doesn't become false simply because the majority think so.

This is freshman comp. stuff Blade and so long as you can continue to use fallacies I will continue to remind you that they destroy your argument. If you truly believe in your god don't use fallacies to prove it!

And if every person on this planet believed that Christ was god almighty it wouldn't matter spit because there is no rational way to prove god is real, much less the story that he had a son that he had to kill so the wicked on earth could have a way to gain entry into heaven. So now we have one unprovable fact coupled with another unprovable fact...but according to you, because 2 billion plus believe it...well that means that it's true...RIGHT!!!

If you can't own up to your use of fallacies don't bust my chops because you have no intellectual integrity...

Snip>>> Bandwagon is a fallacy based on the assumption that the opinion of the majority is always valid: that is, everyone believes it, so you should too. It is also called an appeal to popularity, the authority of the many, and argumentum ad populum (Latin for "appeal to the people").

Babies begin to respond to language within days birth. Note: language is any consistent noise that carries a specific meaning.

Numerous studies have shown that babies can recognize and respond to the voice of their mother before they are born...

My own daughter was able to recognize my vouce and respond to it starting around the end of the seventh month...

She could recognize to words...
"地震" (dizhen) the Chinese word for earthquake... Which she would respond to by kicking vigorously... (I would shake her mother's stomach to stimulate her )

And "Diana", her name... Which when I spoke would result in a steady push against her mother's stomach...

She only responded to my voice (had several friends try it..) and only (consistently) to these two words...

I enjoyed my wife's pregnancy immensly.. It gave me the opportunity to test several hypothesis that I had been curious about...

And my daughter is the light of my life

Your argument is a subjective opinion the basis of which cannot be determined other than it is highly prejudicial. Why you are so hostile toward those who believe in God is your problem and I do not care to know why.

I did not say that the more people who believe something makes it true, I simply said it lends the belief crediblity.

Argumentum ad Hominem is a logical fallacy.

I have also heard that they recognize the mother's voice before birth but I had not heard that they responded to specific communications in utero. If they produce a specific reaction to a consistent sound/word, I would regard it as a being.

Ah ... sentience raises it's head above the swamp. It's been proven that at least one gorilla and a chimp or two could meet that criteria. Does this alter your definition of 'being'?

Regardless...Children are amazing....

Oh my. I am glad you enjoyed your wife's pregnancy, and had so much fun with your pre-born daughter. Was your wife as happy about your hypothesis testing as you were? Every child is a gift from God, and a treasure beyond worth. So nice to see how much you enjoyed it all. Society has sadly forgotten how important fathers are, both to sons and daughters. Sons grow up to be much more confident and better men with a good father and good relationship with him. Daughters grow up to be much happier and more relaxed with a good relationship with a good father. God bless you, your wife and daughter, Enjoy what God has blessed you with. I did, and now I have a wonderful son-in-law to love, who's a loving best friend and husband to my dear daughter and a great father to my 3 fabulous grandchildren.

My argument was your use of logical fallacies to support your religious views. There was nothing subjective in that but an absolute certainty that you were using the 'bandwagon' fallacy. My attack wasn't on your religion but on you for using fallacies to try to garner support for it. I was taught that the cornerstone of Christianity was faith. If that is true then there is no need for fallacies to garner support for your religion. You have faith--what other people believe matters not.

Quote:
I did not say that the more people who believe something makes it true, I simply said it lends the belief credibility.

So your argument is that "lends credibility" doesn't equate to making something true?

This is what google comes up with for "lends credibility"

Definition of lend weight/credence/credibility. : to make something seem true or correct

Now my comment to you was that you show a lack of intellectual integrity in owning up to your use of logical fallacies and you are doing it again here.

Lastly, there was not a single thing I said that was subjective nor an attack on your religion or any religion for that matter. What it comes down to Blade is that if you need fallacies to bolster your faith than you have no faith and if you have no faith how is it you think you can make it into that heaven of yours?

Your point???

What is your point JW? Why do you think it matters. Based on the definition you seem to be using now most mammals would qualify as 'beings'. That doesn't mean any rights are bestowed because of it so why is it you think it matters?

Thanks Rick....

And the same to you...

I agree that the role of fatherhood has suffered greatly in modern times...
It is one of the greatest titles a man can wear...

God bless you and your family... And grant you all a straight path... Amen...
