It is called growth. If I had known then what I know now I would not have wasted all those years supporting conservative Republicans. After reading history book after history book I suddenly realized that Conservatives never invented any thing since they invented the dark age. The Renaissance, the reformation, the enlightenment, the age of reason, the industrial revolution, the Progressive era were all produced by progressive minded men and women with vision. Conservatives have no vision because they can't take their eyes of the rear view mirrior. The conservatives have only ever had one good idea. But it wasn't just a good idea, it was the second greatest idea ever!

The great conservative idea: some things need to be CONSERVED! That's it. End of story. There have been no other good conservative ideas in the history of the world! Which would not even matter so much if the conservatives were very good at understanding and applying their one great idea. Unfortunately for everyone, conservatives are horrible - the world's worst - at understanding the weight and responsibility of this idea and taking good care of it. They have a pathetic legacy of applying this jewel of an idea throughout all the long millennia of the human story. They fail to apply it when it is really called for, and ignorantly, stubbornly, meanly apply it to some of the absolute worst things in the world.

I challenge you to find reliable information conserning the national debt as a percent of GDP that differs from Wikipedia. as long as the information is accurate isn't that what counts and the stats are accurate. Yes I was gullible as a youngster I was persuaded to change my registration from Democrat to Republican I'm embarrassed to admit but I chalk it up to the fact I was ignorant ,uneducated, and naïve. It took me too long to walk up to reality. I don't know if Snopes is accurate or not. I know if information is posted on Wikipedia and has no credible source , Wiki will note source is needed

Nicky, oh learned one, how do you explain Argentina?????? Argentina was the sweetheart of South America in the 1950s. They had huge swaths of land in agriculture and abundant natural resources. They had it all with a capitalist system; they were the pride of South America. But socialism crept in. As socialism grew, economic growth slowed. The final straw was free healthcare for all. Their economy collapsed. Expanding socialism eventually grew into fascism under Juan Perot, and their economy has been in the dump ever since.

Nicky, a degree of socialism is essential for a civilized society. Data going back 10,000 years show that older individuals could not have survived without someone else chewing their food and spitting it into their mouths. Civilized societies take care of their old, sick, and handicapped. But eventually that grows beyond taking care of the needy; it grows into free stuff. And when free stuff grows out of control, the economy fails. It ALWAYS happens.

It's sad that Argentina's neighbor, Venezuela, didn't learn from Argentina's mistakes. Venezuela is going down the same trail of economic disaster.
