I'm a Christian who can read. I am also fairly liberal. It's because of my faith. .
I ALWAYS hear conservative Christians even in my church say they conservative because of their Christianity.
When I read the Bible, I notice that the most talked about subject is charity and helping the poor. (By far) But my conservative friends seem to hate the poor, as though they have not right to exist. Certainly they don't deserve food or medical care or the right to vote. Can anyone tell me how conservatives come to this conclusion? Please?

I cannot answer your question, just agree with your premise. This is why I left the church. I still believe in God, and pray; but the negativity in his house sickens me.

It was a good comment. So we should teach them to fish, but we still feed them while we are teaching them. I'm all for that. I don't advocate just letting people stay at home. Our current welfare system has many problems that could be cured. The problem is the cures aren't allowed, by people who just want it gone.

how do you teach someone who dosent want to learn?i remember a girl who the company hired she made top dollar at the time about 18$hr and she quit so she could be with her kids.she said she was better off on welfare and f stamps.now why should she be getting a check from the govt.

Like most true Christians, its easier to tell which sins I have not committed. I have not Murdered. I still love God and place him above all others. I haven't carved any images of false gods. Mostly I see the good in people and love them as I love myself. Haven't stolen anything. But I have sinned. Show me anyone who hasn't.

I don't leave because they are not completely bad, just wrong. And if I don't try to show them better, who will?

KEEP JESUS OUT OF YOUR SOCIALISM

From the words of Jesus and the New Testament, ministering to the poor and the needy among us is the work of Christian individuals and the church, not the secular government. Jesus said, "The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because He has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. . . ." Today's Religious Left wants to change that to, "He has anointed the federal government to preach good news to the poor."

The Christian gospel is a message of salvation, not a message of income redistribution and raising our neighbor's taxes. Jesus said that the way to serve the poor is by giving generously of our own resources. "But when you give a banquet," He said in Luke 14, "invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous."

Democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.

     A beautiful and well stated and reasonable comment. If people cannot grasp what it is all about, they obviously have an intense desire NOT TO. Pay no heed to any insults hurled you way. You are doing exactly as I would expect a good Christian to do in your explanation, not that you need any kudos - you have still earned some. I don't see myself as a Christian, but I do see you as one, and I say "God bless" good and true Christians. Their religion has held our nation together for decades upon decades.

Every single time on this forum, when a political question is posed, the superstition-mongering, self-described "religious" moronic jackasses quickly turn it into their praises for the ineffable and unprovable, thereby destroying any further discussion that might have possibly been at least a little cogent.

Why don't you believers in spirits and Yours Is The Only True Way go take a good crap for yourselves while those who want to actually stick to the thread are allowed to do so? Instead of corrupting every single conversation?

It wasn't free in the 1950's, was my point. I totally failed to get my point across. We still paid for it then.
If you think that health care didn't have problems before Obama or the government, then you could not be more wrong. How many other businesses do you purchase from without any idea of what the bill will be? That goes back farther than either of us can remember, too.

in the 50s i paid 5.00$ for a dr. visit now it cost anywhere from 100.$ to 250$ and i really think its because of govt.

Tasine, read the post on page 9 by a conservative. He just made the same case that I talked about my conservative friends making. He told why we should not be truly helping the poor. He had to pick and choose from the Bible verses to get there.

I carefully read teaman's comment and I think it was absolutely beautiful and right on target.

You are either confused or lying when you say, "He told why we should not be truly helping the poor." He did not sway, nor did he infer; that "we should not be truly helping the poor." He specified, specifically said GOVERNMENT should not be forcing citizens to do the will of God. It is not government's business. It is individuals and churches business. It is anyone's business to help the poor - but not at the wrong end of a gun! There is NOTHING religious, NOTHING good about forcefully robbing people, as all governments do.

The left, and specifically YOU, call Christians hypocrites and say they hate the poor, and you have based it on their conservative thinking. I frankly wonder if you have fallen so far from reality that you will never be able to accept Christians or conservatives as good people. I believe you have been so totally brainwashed that there may be no hope for you, and that is sad. Eventually you will have a price to pay. The people who brainwashed you are NO GOOD, and they couldn't care less if you live or die. They are totally self-centered and are determined to control EVERYONE in EVERY respect. I beg you, for your sake and your family's - seek 1-2 true conservatives and see if you can make a true friendship with them. If you can, you will always wonder how you made it without them.

I do hope you are not using Chrome.... that application has some very bad vulnerabilities. Not only does it track your cookies, but it delivers your IP to their server. That means that your specific computer can be seen by an outside source. It is also consistently under attack by hackers, making your passwords for banking (credit card number) in the clear and other quite nasty things like implanting spiders. If you do not like to use explorer the next best is Foxfire. Fox has an advantage over explorer because when you are on your system it makes your system a "private" browsing, masking your IP and reroutes the cookies only maintaining those necessary for the pages you are viewing.

You love others as you love yourself? Didn't you mean to say you love them as long as they are not Christian conservatives? Or you love them as long as you can control them?
